TTC after miscarriage - LH always positive on tests now

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation. I had a miscarriage first weekend in Feb this year (at 12 weeks) and it was a long road to getting my hcg back to normal. I have had one actual cycle now since the MC.

But throughout this whole time LH test strips are always coming up positive for me. At first I thought it was just them picking up residual hcg, but now that has gone, I'm worried that something bad is happening to my hormones.

Before I got pregnant my LH tests would always come up as negative the weeks before I started the surge so I could always tell when I would ovulate (it was pretty much at 14 or 15 days each time) but last month it was much harder to tell. The line did get deeper around the time I would expect to ovulate, but I don't really feel like it actually did.

I guess I was wondering whether anyone else had experienced consistently higher LH levels after a miscarriage. If the tests pick up around 20/25 units then thats way above what my normal used to be (under 2 on day 2 of cycle). I hope it hasn't completely screwed up my ability to ovulate!

Hi there. So sorry for your loss.

That does sound a bit baffling. The good news is, if you've had a complete cycle and AF then I guess you ovulated..? In all honesty, it sounds like something to ask your GP about. It's certainly not a silly thing to go with. I had a MMC (also 12wks) mid-April and have just finished my first AF since the loss. I actually did an opk this morning just to check and get an idea of baseline and there isn't even a hint of a second line. Sharing as a reference point as it shows that what you're experiencing isnt necessarily typical post-mmc. Hopefully someone else will have experience of it though and can give you more idea about it. But yeah, I'd definitely ask the GP for their opinion on this one. More than anything it must just be frustrating not being able to easily detect your peak! Sending hugs x

@SnookyPook thanks so much for your reply! It's really helpful. And I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you're doing OK?

I spoke to my GP about it but she was very dismissive and didn't really seem to understand what I was talking about which was disheartening. I think I will try with another doctor at the practice to see if they can help at all. It took 12 weeks for the hcg to leave my system so I feel like its messed things up somewhat. I didn't take a test straight after my AF, I certainly will this time. I took them pretty much every day last month though!

Thank you again for the message xx

I'm not doing too badly thanks. Better than I imagined I would be tbh although I
Some days it still hits hard out the blue.

Bless you... 12 weeks is such a long time for it to all drag on. It's so weird isn't it when you start wanting the negative test once you know there's no hope because that means you can start trying to move forwards. It's such a weird mix of emotions and thoughts etc. At least it's a good sign that your cycle has returned. I think it's very normal for certain hormones etc to be a bit weird after a loss so hopefully this is all stjllcpaet of your system just trying to normalise itself again.

Oh gosh, a dismissive GP can make things so difficult. Sorry she wasn't much help. I'd definitely try to see if someone else at the practice would listen!
