Hi

I am ttc my 2nd dc but I have been diagnosed with a underactive thyroid.
I have been told it can cause fertility problems.
This concerns me my tsh was 6.6 a few weeks ago and my thyroxine was increased.

I am due for another blood test to check tsh again shortly.

Are there any underactive thyroid sufferers out there who managed to concieve okay, despite this condition, who can lay my fears to rest.

yep, I'm underactive and have DS. I also have PCOS and now having difficulty cos of mega cycles - blaming PCOS not thyroid. If you're on the correct dose of thyroxine, you should be fine, don't worry and good luck

What is your tsh now is it in normal range.

Was your condition already diagnosed when you had your DS and was it in normal range then.

Sorry to be nosey it worries me in case this condition prevents me concieving.

Um, not sure what my levels are tbh . Last time I had my blood tested my GP said my thyroxine dose was ever so slightly high. I'm on 150mg and I could reduce by 25mg but I'm sticking to 150mg cos I'm scared I'll put weight on! Yes, my condition had been diagnosed before I fell pg. I was referred to an endocrinologist when pg who I only saw once but he was happy with my levels. I have to say DS was a complete surprise but I hadn't really been on the pill for about 3 years previously(well on and off). I'm almost certain this had nothing to do with my thyroid especially since discovering I have PCOS which does cause real problems TTC.
I really think you have nothing to worry about. As long as you're on the correct dosage you'll be absolutely fine. What it can affect is breast feeding (i've heard). Make sure when you do have a baby that your thyroid levels are checked again before or just after birth. I'm not sure if it was my thyroid or PCOS but I didn't have any let down and was absolutely devastated not to be able to BF. PCOS can also affect BFing so it could've been either. I had no idea at the time that thyroid function/PCOS could affect it and nobody told me at the time.

Really, you must not worry. An under-active thyroid is so easy to correct as long as you're regularly monitored. Don't ever forget to take your medication if you can help it at all.

Hi, I'm on 125mg daily for an underactive thyroid, I was stable when we started TTC and got pg on our first attempt! Thyroid levels have stayed stable throughout pregnancy, on the same level of thyroxine. I'm 33 weeks now.

See worzil an underactive thyroid shouldnt be a problem for you at all
Congrats KnitterInTheNW, remember to make sure you get your levels checked for BFing (if you want to do it). I think they can fluctuate around the time of birth which causes BFing problems

Hi
I was diagnosed with a Underactive Thyroid level last June following the birth of my DS in March. My levels were very low although I didn't take notice of the number. It had taken us a year to conceive with my DP and his low sperm. My thyroid levels are now normal and I take 75mcg thyroxine. Now 8 weeks pregnant with DC 2. It only took 6 months to get this one!!Despite being told so many odds were against us! I'm 36!! Good luck x
