I was prescribed metformin for pcos . I was told it would help make periods more regular and encourage ovulation ect .

Upon researching I came across conflicting information. One of them said metformin is useless for pcos and docotor who prescribe it for pcos don't understand pcos b3csuse pcos isn't caused by being overweight or insulin it's caused by too many eggs that that's why women get more regular as they age as egg quanity declines.

Just wondering your thoughts really. I've been on metformin for about 10 months now at 1000mg can't tolerate anymore but it hasn't done anything for me and I'm contemplating quiting but doctor says not to

Inofolic is a less harsh natural alternative that you may be able to tolerate a higher dose of? Have a look at the Zita West fertility clinic for more info.
The too many eggs thing sounds incorrect - are you definitely insulin resistant though? That's the PCOS aspect that Metformin is prescribed to treat and in lowering that, it aids fertility.
How's your diet? Have you altered to lower G.I?

It depends what type of pcos you have and what you respond to. For me metformin works really well and I have conceived every time on my first full cycle of taking it, whilst I was trying for a year without success before I tried it. I do have to take 1500mg a day though, 1000 wasn’t enough for me so I take the full dose even with side effects.

he is absolutely correct, pcos is caused by too many follicles. Your follicles contain eggs. They are all immature eggs and don't get released which is why pcos women don't often ovulate. Unless you have insulin resistance are pre / diabetic then no metformin won't help your pcos

The majority of women with PCOS are insulin resistant! I get the same effects as taking metformin/inositol as I do if I eat a low carb diet. Definitely recommend the PCOS Nutritionist podcast if you want to learn more! There are different types so it may not work for you but definitely recommend inositol alongside

I have been taking metformin for PCOS - 2000mg. My PCOS is insulin resistant. For me, it brought back my periods but i still wasnt reliably ovulating. We conceived in the end with letrozole. I also do low carb diet alongside.

If you are having the gastro side effects, try the slow-release version of the tablets. I found them much gentler on my digestive system.
