Hi all, ttc my first. I was wondering if anybody could simply explain ovulation strips to me please? I just can't seem to get my head around them, how often, how long for, if it's positive does that mean I should DTD?

Also, if you are doing the deed every day do you still need to do ovulation strips or?

Sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm just looking for some help 😊

Hey!

If you are dtd everyday then you don't really need ovulation strips no, as you're covering everyday anyway but that's hard to keep up!

How long are your cycles? For example if you have a 28 day cycle you are likely to ovulate around day 14. Cycle day 1 is first day of your period btw.
In this case it's suggested you start using ovulation tests from cycle day 10, sometimes I start earlier because I'm abit addicted to testing 🤦🏼‍♀️. I'd advise testing twice a day as I missed my peak for a few months when I only tested once.

The longer you are trying (hopefully not too long) you will begin to get an idea of roughly when you ovulate and when's best to start testing etc.

Now your tests are only positive if the test line is as strong or stronger than the control line. I have a line of some degree all month but it suddenly gets quite dark the day before I peak, then I get a positive and ovulation takes place after that. Everyone is different though. You need to be dtd before you get a peak to be honest, which is easier to know once you've got used to your cycle but once you get a peak test preferably dtd that day and the following 2-3 days as the peak is your lh surging to encourage an egg to release. If you are also doing bbt, a consistent rise in temperature will confirm you did successfully release that egg. But you can release the egg anywhere from 12-36 hours after the peak LH hence doing the dead for a few days to cover it. The egg doesn't survive very long so they say having sperm waiting (sperm survives up to 5 days) is best.

Hope this helped abit and I didn't ramble on too much!!

@Ttcmumma thank you so much! Your reply was very in depth and helpful, just what I needed. It's hard to get your head around how they work isn't it I've read so much online but needed someone to just simply explain it to me lol!

I'll use those tips, fingers crossed x
