Ttc and new job

I've been ttc for 8 months and in that time, I've gained the qualifications I need to move up to the next level in my career.

I've been offered a new job which would be perfect but if I get pregnant, obviously my new employer is not going to be best pleased! I'm 36 so don't really have time to waste and the journey has turned out more difficult than we thought it would be, so I'm really stuck on what to do!

Do I stay where I am and continue to ttc or do I move on and have a 6 month break, which at my age is risky.

Please help 😫

So I TTC for a year, kinda got fed up putting my life on hold, got a new job in the October and got pregnant in the November. It was awkward at first but they got over it because (generally) work can replace you fairly easily!

You're saying this job is perfect, is it likely to come around again? Long term is it better if a family did happen? Could you cope without the full maternity pay/benefits? If ttc hasn't happened in the next 6 months will you be kicking yourself you didn't take the job?

Obviously I can't answer for you but after my own experience - if I was you I would take the job and as long it was financially workable keep TTC. I don't want to sound condescending or anything but it's okay to put yourself above your new work if that's an option.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I think it all depends how long your current notice is etc (my prev was 3 months), how long you want off after the baby comes / what your financial situation is etc. If you have good mat benefits with you current employer and are actively trying you can pick back up your career later on.

I am recently 36 and 9 weeks pregnant with DC2. I changed jobs last year and then waited the 6 months until I passed my probation before I started trying. By the time I go off will have been in the new job 15 months ish which I think is fairly ok before going off. Fully intend to return to work for them afterwards etc.

Don’t put your life on hold while TTC would be my advice, from my own experience.

Yes, I'd take the job and double check what their maternity policy is. Some say you have to have been there a certain amount of time to be eligible for pay, but my organisation's policy said I was eligible from the start as long as I wasn't pregnant before I started my role. See what you might be able to afford with that in mind and just continue TTC anyway.

TTC is such a tricky process. It took us 14 months, and so it turns out I'll have been there 2 years before I go on leave, though we started TTC just a few months into the job. You don't know how long its going to take, so I'd just go ahead with life as you would normally. You could be in a doubly upsetting situation where you're not yet pregnant and you missed out on the job you wanted.

Exactly this. Took me years until I had my rainbow baby!
at your age especially! Take the job and keep trying

Thanks all. I think the advice of not putting my life on hold is sensible.

It's been a long 8 months and I'm booked in for initial bloods next month so it could take a long time or not happen at all for me

Can I ask what you did? In a similar situation right now
