Off to docs today to arrange contraception, and Ive narrowed it down to the Mirena or the implant, I want something that will be easy to remove/stop and that wont affect my fertility in 3y if we decide to ttc again. The only things that worry me are:

The mirena, im worried that it might increase the risk of ep

The implant, worried about side effects. I get migraines.

help me please oh wise mn-ers!

im a family planning nurse.

the mirena actually reduces your chances of having an ectopic pregnancy as it it reduces you chance of becoming pregnant in general and the chance of an ectopic is reduced further due to the progesterone.

check out the guidance from the faculty of sexual and reproductive health care from the royal college of obs and gobs on intrauterine contraception for current guidance

the implant can cause very heavy erratic bleeding and this is the main cause for it being removed. about 20% will have no bleeding but for 80% it can be fairly erratic, unlike the mirena which can cause erratic bleeding patterns for the first 6 months as the endometrial lining of the uterus atrophies after this you will havae little or no bleeding.... by the end of 12 months bleeding is reduced by 90%

thanks for that. i think what i was trying to say last night is that we still have no explanation for the mc's, they have been happening around 5/6w so its likely that there is an issue with implantation. and this is one of the issues that my gp and i took into account iykwim.

Thanks for that Lulu - I am having a Cu-IUD fitted next month and that has answered a lot of questions for me.
