Thin uterine lining

Callie25 · 13/04/2023 11:32

Has anyone else had a thin uterine lining on an ultrasound scan? Mine was 6.5mm which is apparently too thin for the egg to stick to. If so, how was this treated?
I've heard it's mostly due to low estrogen and if you've a family history of breast cancer they won't always give estrogen tablets.
Has anyone experienced this?
Been trying for 16 months and have been referred to a fertility clinic now, waiting for an appointment with the consultant.
Thanks 😊

ive not been diagnosed yet (no scan) but suspect I do as I’ve had two Chemicals and was on the mirena coil for ten years. I’ve seen on YouTube exercises you can do to increase the lining by encouraging blood flow to the reproductive organs

Oh really, how interesting! I also had the mirena coil for about 7 years, but it was removed Jan 2022

When in the cycle was the scan? Before or after ovulation? Generally 7mm is what fertility clinics like to see and I think can give you some meds to support it. I’ve had a year of ovulation induction and constant scans and they were okay with mine, generally stayed around 5-6mm unless ovulation happened and it then got to 7.5-8ish

Littlegoth · 15/04/2023 15:46

Progesterone will thicken the uterus lining.

Littlegoth · 15/04/2023 15:49

Just to follow up I have APS and can’t have anything oestrogen based as it increases clotting risk. I was given progesterone following a miscarriage on aspirin and lovenox in order to boost my uterus lining. I’ve not heard of anyone being prescribed oestrogen for this (doesn’t mean they aren’t though, it’s just outside of my experience) but I know progesterone is commonly prescribed for this reason.

VixFromThe6ix · 16/04/2023 02:46

I had low progesterone which caused spotting before period during luteal phase, and that causes my lining not to thicken enough. So I took progesterone vaginal pills.

Was 6.5mm on CD17, after ovulation, so should have been thicker. It's the only issue that's been found so I'm hoping that somehow it can be sorted and then I'll be able to conceive naturally? 🤞🏼

Oh I have no idea, this is why I'm asking 😂 I just read that it can be caused by low estrogen, so I assumed that would be the fix? I'm waiting on the appointment with the consultant but it could be weeks away yet

@Callie25 i think they can provide oestrogen pills or injections to help. I know from my treatment pre ovulation was where the lining was really building, you aren’t far away from the 7mm they like to see so hopefully it won’t take much to give you the boost to get there!

Yeah I'm hoping so 🤞🏼 I'd have to pay for ivf due to my partner already having a daughter, so I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that

@Callie25 have you read the fertility treatment policy for your area? Where I am and some other places have changed so as long as one person doesn’t have a child you are eligible for nhs treatment, worth finding your ccg policy if you can

Emmamoo89 · 19/04/2023 22:42

You can do it naturally eat whole grains and chicken or beef bone broth 😊

Yeah I'm going off friends recent experiences unfortunately! 😔

I had thin lining so was prescribed Oestrogen from day of ovulation and progesterone from 3 dpo, I’m not in the UK though.

Did that work?
I mean it might not be my only issue, but I imagine it's what they'll want to try as a start x

@Callie25 It did, I stopped having chemicals and they started sticking.

100% Pomegranate juice - Pom
it’s expensive and you can only find it in the big supermarkets but I drank this during my ivf treatment and it worked

hi @Mrsphilmiller are you saying pomegranate juice helped thicken your lining? If so, what did your lining start at and improve to if you don’t mind saying?
thanks

Mrsphilmiller · 03/10/2023 13:14

Yes I believe so.
I had thin lining and I drank the Pom juice until it thickened.
I believe it took around 10 days, but could be wrong.

Mrsphilmiller · 03/10/2023 13:14

My living was under 7mm, maybe around 6mm (I really don’t remember, and it went up to 8mm thick

Phattenmeup · 22/11/2023 20:15

Hi all, just coming on to share what worked for my chronically thin lining (always 5 - 6mm naturally) in case it helps anyone who like myself, spent hours combing these forums looking for the answer whilst still under NHS. To preface, I tried progynova alone, progynova with estrogen patches, sildenafil (aka viagra) and weeks of acupuncture. Sildenafil was the only thing that got me a couple of mm thicker but still nowhere near 7mm. Having exhausted my NHS options (2 failed transfer later) and understanding that there was nothing else to try, and also that my body was one of the unlucky ones that responds even worse to synthetic estrogen than going natural, I took the difficult, very costly decision to go private. Just to add that I had also had an abnormal cell finding from my hysteroscopy (focal morular metaplasia which no one seeme to have heard of, which seems to have gone away now). Under my new private doctor, I did a mock stims cycle - they prepared me as if going for egg collection but instead of egg collection, I did the EMMA, ALICE & ERA tests that cycle. My doctor explained that if he could get my body to naturally produce higher levels of estrogen by stimulating me (using meriafert) this should thicken the lining. And lo and behold, my lining got to over 7mm (I think 7.2mm), the thickest on record for me. In my current FET transfer cycle we've done exactly the same except doubled the dose of meriafert for the first 3 days and it's worked even better. Got to 7.7mm at my last measurement before transfer! Honestly could not believe my body was capable of doing that with or without help. Time will only tell if that's what will make the difference (that and the fact the ERA test revealed I'm post-receptive so should be having transfers a couple of days earlier than average). I don't believe one size fits all but just wanted to share in case it helps. My NHS doctor refused to prescribe stims for a FET transfer only, and tbh either couldn't or wasn't willing to tailor the treatment anymore than their protocols (or budget?!)allowed - so for me it really has paid to go private. I've been so unsure it isn't all just a big unnecessary money drain until now. Even if I don't get pregnant I'll know I at least got to the bottom of a couple of things and not have regrets in that sense.

Sorry to jump on an old post but I’ve had a similar result recently on a scan (6mm) but have been told it’s normal even though I personally don’t think it is! Have you managed to conceive naturally?
thank you! X

13lucy · 22/04/2024 09:13

Hi @xElx I recently had an ultrasound and had 6.9mm thickness (this was 4 days before my period so should be thick at this point). From what I've read this isn't ideal but the results from my GP say satisfactory. I'm so confused whether it could be an issue or not. My periods have also been super light since surgery after miscarriage. Any insight would be really helpful!
