It is usually prescribed and dispensed by the hospital where you are having the IVF.

Good luck!

I bought mine on line. I use Fertility2U which is the pharmacy my clinic partnered with and which was the cheapest any way.

I had great service from them and was really pleased. I know some people rate Asda for IVF meds but they came up comparatively expensive when I spoke to them.

KatRee · 12/04/2023 08:19

Mine was ordered through my clinic. Have heard of people saving money by grit from Asda pharmacy though

@123Hope8 good luck hun!! So what I would recommend is to try not to stress and to make sure you are eating right. I didn't know this as not alot of emphasis is made on food but when preparing for egg collection you should try and cut out red meat. It's recommended you try and eat plenty egg whites and chicken and just high protein food. I was told around 62g of protein per day which is quite alot and without thought behind it you certainly won't meet it. Try and avoid alot of cafeine etc. I was being extra gd on this round of egg collection and managed to get some AA quality embryos this time round so cross fingers it all goes well. If you need anything please do PM me x

@Vallef Thankyou so so much! Will definitely try that. I wasn’t sure if I needed to avoid things like doing my nails or hair or putting tan on? Not that I do things like that often but just incase lol As we have a friends birthday and wasn’t sure wether to avoid. We’re having ICSI too, Because of my partners sperm so maybe I need to look at his diet too and get him more protein.
Thankyou so so much for the advice, Good luck with everything x

@123Hope8 for hubby I would also say he especially should cut out alcohol, coffee and red meat we were told to do a 3 month prep of our diet but obviously if you can't then you can't. In addition to this not wearing tight underwear and they should try not sitting down long period of times as it's bad for their sperms. Also in regards to medication seriously. It cost me less to fly out to Greece to buy my medication than what it did to buy in the UK their just so expensive. However depending on what medication your prescribed keep in mind some of this can be given through ur GP which will save you quite abit so for example I asked my GP for utrogestan, progynova and rhe lipitor injections. It all adds up!!

123Hope8 · 15/04/2023 12:35

@Vallef Thankyou for your advice, It’s so nerve wracking! And getting more expensive with extra costs. I’ll speak to the doctor and see what they say. Thank you really appreciate it x

@123Hope8 hope it all goes well :) hope your GP is a sympathetic one sometimes they dig their heels in but you can get your ivf doctor to prep a letter explaining the medication needed and realistically there's no reason why they can't help with some of the meds! If you need anything else please do let me know. I've learnt to push and try and learn as much as I can because I think we're more thorough than the doctors!

I started DH on a lycopene supplement. I'd read some studies showed it could improve sperm quality and motility. You can buy it separately, or some mens multivitamins have it included.

My IVF clinic used fertility2U, so I just used them. I also bought emla cream (online or larger pharmacies). Its a local anaesthetic used to numb the skin for blood tests/cannulation etc. I used to put a pea sized blob on my stomach and sit and watch TV. Don't rub it in- just leave the blob there, or put a plaster over the top so it presses on the skin. Leave at least 30mins, but fully effective after 60mins. Wipe the cream off and inject your med in that spot. Takes the sting right out of the injections. Best of luck.

You could shop around for drugs but I’ve never bothered. I can’t be bothered with one place being out of stock and then traipsing somewhere else, and apparently some pharmacies don’t supply the needles whereas others do. Stork just bring the lot to your house in one delivery. My advice would be to check all the expiry dates as soon as you get it though- I got sent expired stuff on my last cycle and it caused so much grief!

You’ll psych yourself up for your first jab, find out how easy it actually was, then they become second nature. I’ve lost count of all the jabs I’ve done in car parks/ McDonald’s/ the office/ even the woods!

123Hope8 · 15/04/2023 14:10

@Vallef i’ll give it a try and see what they say! Really feel so out of my depth. Hopefully things go well so scary! Hope everything goes well for you. Thanks again for all the advice x

Been a few years but I used to try and get what I could through Asda pharmacy as sure they used to do things close to cost price for IVF meds but not sure if that's the case now. Definitely shop around as you can end up saving £100s. The clinic should be able to give you a price for each item to make it easy to compare and they would do seperate prescriptions if I wanted some from them and some from Asda

I’m lazy because I’ve reached a point where I’ve stopped caring about saving £100 here or there. I’m about to start my 4th round of stims and it’s going to be the most expensive yet. I can’t be doing with the extra hassle. Just bring it to my house, I can chuck it in the fridge, stabby stabby, job done 😆

123Hope8 · 15/04/2023 17:39

@SquashPenguin Bless you! That’s fair enough! 😆 It’s a rollercoaster all this isn’t it! Good luck with it all bless you x
