PCOS, PCS & Metformin

Hi,

I’ve had PCOS for years (which was found accidentally during a coil scan). I had my coil out in 2021 and since then I’ve been really noticing side affects. (Hairy face, chest, irregular / absent periods etc etc) I went to drs and had bloods and sent for a scan. My testosterone was 3x normal amounts. Scan also diagnosed me with pelvic congestion syndrome (with PCOS) which Is like varicose veins inside pelvis which buldge and pool?. I’ve had an urgent referral to Gynae to sort everything. In the meantime I’ve done a lot of research and believe Metformin would induce ovary release, reduce insulin resistance and lower androgen levels. I can’t see anything against this?? Or am I in fairy land. I’m willing to try ANYTHING.

Am I best going back to GP asking for this medication or awaiting gynae opinion which could be 12 week wait on urgent list !

We are wanting a baby but I want to get my body the perfect oven to cook my bun in first as I’ve previously had numerous chemical pregnancies which may be explained due to the above.

Any help or advice is welcome. Thank you x

Hi lovely .
To be honest metformin dosent work for everyone. I was on metfomin for a year and there has been no change to my androgen levels. Mine too are sky high. I feel you with all the excess hair 😔. It did not help regulate my periods at all. It's an awful drug 💩 I also tried myo inositol alone and no change. I've already had fertility referral so my bloods have been taken a few times. My last bloods were taken at fertility clinic last month but I won't get results until my next appointment. What I did find that I think has helped is taking metformin and myo together. First month I did was December and I got pregnant . I've had a period every month now and I'm also ovulating . Before that I had 1 to 2 periods a year. My cycle this month has been long and I didn't ovulate til day 45 but at least its better than no ovulation and I think it'd cause I was messing with other tablets and trying different brands aswell . I recommend the conceive plus ovulation support

By the way my gp would not prescribe metformin without me seeing gynae and it was gynae who prescribed it

I tried myo inositol while I waited for a referral and that helped make my periods more regular and then I became pregnant. Might be worth a try as you can buy them online and I believe there are a lot less side affects.
