Pcos metformin vs slow release metformin

Has anyone tried standard metformin vs slow release? Did switching still help regulate your cycles or there any one better than the other at helping regulate cycles ? From what I read online you take less tablets a day with the slow. Is it still the same dose ?
I struggle with standard metformin 3 x 500 so 15000mgdaily. Pharmacy won't switch me over said contact gp and I've already left a note for the gp regarding this and today collected my metformin and it's the standard which I just cannot tolerate. Been on it 10 months and I've had fucking diarrhea every day and I'm going to crack up feeling like I'm shitting fire every day. I'm going to ring gp in morning and complain but I wanted to know if it going to be worthwhile switching or if the standard vs slow makes any sorta difference as sometimes you hear people say with different medication that one isn't as effective

Hi, medication is exactly the same with the exception of the rate at which it is released at. To limit the side effects with standard release you should build the dose up gradually and take with food. Otherwise a lot of people find modified release more tolerable and that it causes less side effects so certainly sounds like it would be worth you switching

Hi, yes I have already done all this , building up gradually and taking with meals , spaced out with the 4 hours required and it did not help at all. The standard release just does not agree with me at all. Its absolutely horrible. I feel like I haven't been able to live a normal life for the past year with all the toilet troubles it's causing me

Ask for the slow release - if you're still getting side effects beyond the first few weeks it is not worth persevering.

Definitely worth trying the slow release to see. I've been on 3000 for at least a year (been on lower doses for more years) and had got used to being a regular toilet visitor! It was good for weight loss at least. I recently had to stop (as my b12 is low and I'm in the early stages of pregnancy) and I recommend weaning off slowly if you ever stop. The constipation was awful when my body was adjusting!

Metformin caused me a lot of issues until I started eating a keto diet, I also find this helps with the pcos symptoms and it was recommended by my consultant. I also settled on 2x500mg today which the doctor is happy with xx
