Just wondering if anyone know, if my partner and I are entitled to help with fertility vie NHS , can we try IUI and if that doesn’t work try IVF? Or would it just be one treatment or the other we would get help with ? Thanks

Bit of a postcode lottery I'm afraid.
Look up your nearest Hospital Trust ...it tells you somewhere there.

I think generally you can try IUI first, but yeah your trust will have specific information.

When we did it they assessed us to see what treatment they thought would be most suitable, you couldn’t specify yourselves, it was the doctors recommendation.

Ok, thanks I’ll try the trust .. thanks for your help ☺️

@hopefullsosbry Our clinic carried out some tests to determine the best treatment route, we were told that we had to go with IVF. All areas have different requirements, we were lucky that we were offered 2 funded rounds on the NHS, many areas have just 1 or 0 rounds offered. Good luck.

No, I don't think egg or sperm donation is available anywhere through the NHS.

SH998 · 24/03/2023 16:33

@hopefullsosbry I know sperm donation is available through the NHS but again your clinic will need to do their own assessment to confirm this is your best option.

Thank you 😊

OP- NHS fertility treatment is based on your home postcode- not where the local hospital is! I went through this, checked everything in detail and had to tell both my GP and the secretary what the guidance was! Caveat being that this was 2yrs ago- so possibly things have changed.

Therefore, look up IVF guidance in whatever your local council area is to your home address. Some places offer no IVF at all, some offer 1, 2 or 3 depending on other factors. Some exclude certain BMI's, smokers, if either of you have children etc- so do check exactly what is/isn't available in your area.

You'd need to check whether egg and or sperm donation is included in your area. BTW- spermicide is something that KILLS sperm! I assumes it just sperm donation you are enquiring about 😉
