What if I’m not ovulating?

This is the third month trying and I’m starting to think I’m not ovulating. I was using clear blue advanced and only got the flashy smile for two months which I read now is just about detecting a rise in estrogen not LH surge. I bought different tests this month to just detect LH and although today is supposed to be ovulation day I’m getting negative for LH test. I know it could be late ovulation so will see. I’m getting a period every month though I see you can still get them without ovulation.

Anyway my question is what can the doctors do if this is the case? Do they give you tests and then medicine?

Sorry to hear that. When are you testing from? Is it possible you’re ovulating earlier than you think you are?

Do you get pains or ecwm around ovulation to try and help you pinpoint when it might be?

You could try the proov progesterone tests for reassurance also! You do them at 7-10dpo (might be a bit hard if you don’t know when you’re actually ovulating) but they give a good indicator if you’ve actually ovulated on that cycle ☺️

Yes, if you are not ovulating there is medicine you can take to basically force ovulation, you then have scans to check its worked and then time conception accordingly. (PCOS sufferer who has been through all this once and about to do it again for DC #2).

You usually have to have some blood tests, scans and referral to fertility clinic lbefore it can be prescribed.

But after only 3 months, id say not to worry too much yet. Depending on your age, i think its recommended to be trying for 6-12months first. You could also try BBT tracking in case the ov tests are slightly missing exact ovulation. And of course sex every 2-3 days to make sure you dont miss it.

Thank you so much for the replies.

I did wonder if my ovulation was at a different time so I had been randomly testing through my cycle with no luck but of course could have missed it. The flashy smile showing the estrogen change did occur at around the time the apps I have said ovulation would occur so I’m not sure if ovulation is another time. I will continue to check and might try getting lots of cheap tests to test more often.

I became pregnant with my son at the end of 2020 and my ovulation did match up to the ovulation apps. So if it has changed it’s not usual for me.

I recently turned 37 so time’s not on my side unfortunately. I know the normal timeframe is to try for a year but I’ve also read on clearblue site that you should see a GP if you’ve not had ovulation in three straight months.

I’ll give it a bit more time with one more cycle with lots of testing to see if it happens.

Are you still breastfeeding at all? That can also affect ovulation.

But yeah, I'm also your age and so I'd say no harm in asking GP to do some day 21 bloods and see what they show as by the time that's done, you'd probably be at 6months anyway. Good luck!

@YorkshireTeaCup Yes I’m still breastfeeding but just at night. I am trying to stop. I know that can affect it but in most cases from what I’ve read if your period is back you should still be fertile. I’ve had regular periods for about a year.

I thought I’d do an update. So it seems I must have been ovulating later than the apps said as I was ill last month and only dtd once and now I’m pregnant. I never did manage to get positive ovulation on tests which was confusing but then I guess human bodies can be confusing. Best of luck to everyone still trying.
