Newbie - TTC advice

Hi everyone,
Am new here and looking for advice. Am 39 and trying TTC. My worry is that since have the V***e (1yr ago) my periods are only 2 days and so light I don’t even need a pad. I did the 21 day progesterone test but it was on day 22 and my doc said the levels were on the low side and suggested clomid. I said I would keep going naturally for a while and I started doing the ovulating sticks and they are showing I’m ovulating. Doing the deed on the ovulating day but still no luck. Should I try clomid?
Thanks for your help in advance.

  1. DTD on ovulation day will not suffice; look up 'sperm meets egg' plan and follow that pattern every cycle for DTD.
  2. Take supplements (eg. Ovum, or Seven seas Pregnancy multi vitamins).
  3. V*e - what is that?
  4. Personally i would take doctor's advice (re clomid, etc) unless there is a good reason to ignore such advice - what is your reason?
  5. Have you and partner done other fetility tests? AMH and AMC for you; SA for him? At 39, you are getting on when it comes to pergnancy, sorry to say. If you want to keep trying naturally for longer, I would in the leats get these tests done and ensure I have good stats to take such chances.

Just looked up SMEP - it says on +OPK day, DTD for day one, two and three after. I was told as you get older the sperm needs to build up and not to be DTD every day as the sperm would be too weak to survive. That's why I stuck to the ovulating day only to DTD? Can I get your thoughts on that, thanks

I asked a fertility doctor re why abstinence for 3 - 5 days when producing sperm sample for semen analysis (SA); whether some abstinence improved sperm quality. He didn't think so; he said it would make no difference to sperm quality but that for testing purposes they are looking for certain debris, cells, etc as well which is why.

I have no medical proficiency on this matter so other than sharing this comment made by a doctor with you, I have no further advice on that. Maybe do a semen analysis for your partner and decide? If the sperm is very good quality then I would worry less but if not, then maybe you do need to make more effort DTD to increae chances?

AMH is a bood test and AFC is antral follicle count which is done as a scan. I would definitely recommend doing these tests for yourself and SA for your partner if you are going to keep trying naturally at the age of 39 (it would help you ensure you have no issues/low stats, so you can stick to your plan).
