Methotrexate advise for an ectopic

I've been diagnosed with a left sided ectopic pregnancy after a few weeks of hCG blood tests and scans at the EPU.

My hCG level has been rising steadily since last Monday (33), last Thursday (145), this Monday (750) and today (950).

It was only on Monday they were 90% sure it was an ectopic and today confirmed from scans.

My Doctor advised to carry on watching and waiting, as my hCG is still low, before deciding on treatment. And to come back next Monday for another blood test, to see if my hCG has gone up again or has lowered.

However she also said if I wanted I could have the Methotrexate injection or surgery.

When I asked for the Methotrexate (as I'm extremely anxious of a rupture and my hCG continues to rise) she didn't seem keen and would rather I waited another 4 days.

After talking things through she agreed I could have the injection tomorrow, but I'm so unsure if I'm making the right decision or if I should wait until next Mondays blood test to see if my hCG goes down naturally.

I know it's hard to say and no one knows which way my hCG could go in the next 4 days. But please if anyone has any advise of their experience with watching and waiting/hCG levels when having Methotrexate or having had the Methotrexate injection I'd really appreciate it! 🩷 Thank-you!

I’m so sorry you are in this position. I was pushed to have methotrexate with lower HCG then you. It was devastating but ultimately I think the right call as I now have both tubes and they are clear (confirmed by HSG).

best of luck and hoping you have brighter days ahead x

So sorry you went through the same situation, its so difficult! 💕

Thank you for your message, that's definitely reassuring!

Did you have many side effects with the Methotrexate?

I can’t comment on the Methotrexate as my ectopic was an unforeseen rupture/emergency surgery situation but I can say that if the worst does happen don’t panic as it’s possible to conceive from both sides with one tube (I have 2 DC now and scans confirmed that one was conceived from my tubeless side).

Thank you, that does ease my anxiety a little! 🩶

I've been advised that unfortunately approx. 1 in 10 who receive Methotrexate still require surgery, which I really hope I can avoid. But I'm glad to hear that hopefully if this does happen I should be okay to conceive in the future.

Just an update encase anyone reads this feed in the future for advise 🩶

I've now been diagnosed with a left sided ectopic and receiving treatment this afternoon at the hospital which will hopefully stop me needing surgery.

So if anyone does have similar symptoms/circumstances as my OG post please speak to your GP. And I was advised any severe pain or bleeding to attend A&E.
