AMH tests

Has anyone done the AMH tests that you do at home?

What are your experiences of them?
GP has said she can't do them and won't refer to fertility, who do, until we have been 12 months without a pregnancy, despite my age.

I believe NHS guidance is over 36 and trying for 6 months, but GP said depends where you live!!
So tempted to do at home testing, so I'm not 39 by the time I get a referral.

I thought it was 6 months after 35. I called GP this week as was concerned about spotting for a few months and she said to have the test next time I get to day 23 for progesterone and ovulation and that would only be our 3rd month. Might be worth trying them again. I am 36

Neither of the GP practices I’ve been with would do AMH. I had to have it done at my fertility clinic. You can probably pay for it as a stand alone test with a consultation, but it will likely cost a few ££ in total.

Not sure AMH is your main priority tbh. I

Check out the rules for fertility referral where you live but i think there are other things you'd want to check.

There's a lot that your GP can do in the meantime. Day 21 progesterone, day 3-5 FSH/LH, semen analysis, ultrasound scan. Also check the guidelines yourself, that doesn't sound right.

NHS rules are not about where you live - it's about where your GP is and you can switch GPs. Worth bearing in mind if for example you are in London and the borough next door offers 3 rounds of IVF Vs the one your doctor is in offering just one.

I paid around £500 for a Fertility check at the London women's clinic - scan and bloods

BeautifulBirds · 21/02/2023 19:27

GP ordered full bloods, but no stipulation as to when in my cycle to get them done.

Scan ordered too, not sure if I had a D&C in August following MMC at 14 weeks. GP didn't know either!!

GP said nothing to worry about as I have 3.5 year old and was pregnant in August, despite not being on contraception since 3.5 Yr old birth.

What other things, please?

I paid for an AMH test through a fertility consultant. My GP was refusing to help so I paid to see the NHS consultant privately and this is one of the tests I paid for along with a scan. In total I think it all cost about £400 which was money well spent as she was quickly able to diagnose and put me on the NHS waiting list for fertility treatment.

I've done this too (last year) but their MOT doesn't include day 2 bloods/FSH/LH/testosterone. I'm having that this cycle requested by my GP.

My problem is not conception but carrying to term.

BeautifulBirds · 21/02/2023 19:39

I might ask again.

My Flo app says due on today, but no sign. Hoping this month is the month, but my LH peak was day 9, so unlikely. And preg test negative today.

Well I'm out of the running this month. Been doing some research and it suggests as my average cycle length is 21 days the chances of conceiving are slim.

Checked the guidance this morning and it does say if over 36 and trying for 6 months referralnis possible. However, it also says something about living children (I have one). I'll have to read it again.
