When did you ovulate after miscarriage?

I have just had two miscarriages back to back which has just about broken me, one at 5 weeks in November, and one at 10 weeks (8 week embryo) 2 weeks ago. During the miscarriage at 5 weeks I was testing negative for HCG before the bleeding even stopped, however after this last one I still have a very faint line a week after the bleeding stopped.

I would like to hear when people ovulated after a miscarriage towards the end of the first trimester, and particularly how long after your pregnancy tests came back negative.

We have this one cycle to try again before we need to stop for 6 months due to two long distance abroad weddings (our sisters so definitely going!). We will be DTD throughout the month anyway but if ovulation is really delayed it may count us out of this one final try before the enforced pause. If it doesn’t work out or we miscarry again then I’m going to try and get some tests during the 6 month break to see if anything is going on, but I’m currently holding onto the tiny glimmer of hope that we just had horrendous luck these two times so will be third time lucky… (We already have one DD who was conceived first month off the pill and I am currently 32)

Firstly, sorry for your loss. I've had two miscarriages as well so know how hard it is to take, especially the second one. In answer to your question, my second miscarriage was in December at 9 weeks. I had surgery on January 6th and ovulated again (confirmed by a scan) on January 27th, so exactly three weeks later.

LittleBeanie · 16/02/2023 09:35

@TheBirdintheCave thank you so much for responding, that gives me hope the wait might not be too long. I’m so sorry for your losses too. The first one is so horrible, but I found the narrative of ‘one miscarriage is so common, the stats are in your favour for the next pregnancy’ made it even more shocking and devastating the second time. Hope you are doing ok as possible.

@LittleBeanie Yeah I felt the same. I was really shocked when it seemed like things were starting to go wrong as I thought I'd had my one and would be ok that time around. I'm ok now but I was very depressed for a long time. We're staring IVF next month if this last natural try is a bust as I feel like we're just out of time age wise.

Hope you're ok too x

I’m so sorry for your losses. I’ve had 2 early miscarriages at 5 weeks (they were back to back) so can’t help with your question if ovulation as mine were both earlier but I got pregnant again right after these and am now 12+5 weeks and had a lovely scan yesterday. I’m not on any type of medication as they wouldn’t help me until 3 losses so it doesn’t always mean there’s something wrong 💕

LittleBeanie · 17/02/2023 11:09

@allgoodthings84 thank you so much for responding and congratulations on your pregnancy. I am definitely trying to focus on the stories of people who have been third time lucky so really appreciate you taking the time to share yours! If it doesn’t work out we have a plan for next steps but the yearning for it to all be ok next time is so strong

I had 2 miscarriages in 6 months. 8 weeks and 10 weeks.

1st time i had to have ERPC, 2nd had MVA. In those circs you're supposed to wait 3 weeks before having sex. I knew i wanted to clear the - ve pregnancy test and have a period before trying again. 1st time my period arrived 30 days after erpc (28 days after the massive bleeding) and 2nd time period after 28 days, which is my normal cycle. So i assume i ovulated as normal but didn't monitor. I'm 41.

Why do you have to stop trying for 6 months?

LittleBeanie · 17/02/2023 15:26

@Whataretheodds thank you for your response, that is reassuring to hear you can get back to a regular menstrual cycle straight away.

My sister is getting married in Jan and my DH’s sister in Feb, both long distance abroad weddings. So for us to attend that counts us out of due dates December - April due to not wanting / being allowed to travel so far after 7 months pregnant. We have debated what to prioritise but I think I need a mental break of a couple of cycles anyway if this month doesn’t work out, and we plan to use the time to get some tests done and make sure there isn’t something underlying going wrong. Hoping since we are 32 time is still on our side but it hasn’t been a straightforward decision 😕

@Whataretheodds I’m also so sorry to hear about your losses, 2 in a row is just awful

I don't know if you're already doing this, but if I'd spend the 6 months getting into really good habits re physical and mental health, and optimising diet/lifestyle factors (balanced with enjoying life and having some champagne at the weddings!). I'd also do some bucket list stuff that you can't do while pregnant /with a baby. Eg scuba diving, skiing, wine tasting.

LittleBeanie · 18/02/2023 14:32

@Whataretheodds Oh I love the idea of focusing on some bucket list items! I said to my DH a couple of days ago that I’m going to put lots of energy into nutrition and exercise to try and get as healthy as possible. I was listening to the Worst Girl Gang podcast and they had a nutritionist on who said that eggs and sperm are actually ‘prepared’ 3 months before they get ‘used’ (it was definitely phrased differently 😂) so that’s the time to really try being as healthy as possible… Definitely food for thought. Is there anything you would specifically recommend beyond general diet and exercise?

Just wanted to update this thread in case anyone else is in the same position searching for answers. From my research, there are such a wide variety of experiences, however here are approximate timings for mine this time:

Started bleeding, and given misoprostol the next day after confirmation of miscarriage from EPU.

1 week later stopped bleeding after everything had passed.

2 weeks from start, had very faint positive pregnancy tests still.

3 weeks from start, saw EWCM and finally got a definite negative pregnancy test.

5 weeks from start, got a BFP. Keeping everything crossed this little one makes it..!

If you are going through the same, I am so sorry and my heart really goes out to you. The past 5 weeks have been absolutely devastating and my mental health has tanked, so please look after yourself ♥️

@LittleBeanie congratulations lovely. How long after your negative test do you think you ovulated? I started miscarrying 5 weeks ago and only had my MVA on Thursday. Bleeding is on and off but I have a negative test now x

Hollycharlie · 17/09/2023 13:46

@Rolo08 hey Rolo08, I started miscarrying. On 10/8, completed 18/8, had neg pt about a weeks after. Completely neg LH tests until today and notice ewcm , no period yet either so been 5 weeks from start of miscarriage and now I think I’m ovulating or about to today. Be interested to hear your experience and if it really can take 5 weeks.

Ladyinpink1 · 17/09/2023 18:58

@LittleBeanie Hi! I'm sorry for your losses. I just wanted to comment as I am in a similar position to you. I have 2 dc, then in December I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks (measuring 8) and 4 weeks ago I started my second miscarriage just before 12 weeks but again measuring earlier.

I am currently waiting to ovulate but I started getting ewcm yesterday and today so I hope it will be soon. My miscarriage started on 19th August, the bleeding stopped on the 8th September and my pregnancy test was almost negative by the 12 September, I haven't tested since but assume by now it will be completely negative. x

* Oh no, I just realised this is an old thread I have commented on! It has popped up on recent chats because of the new comments so I thought it was new, sorry! *
