Best time to conceive after positive opk?

Hi,

We are ttc. For various reasons OH doesn't usually want sex more than every three days. I don't want advice on that aspect as we know why and accept this and are happy.

However timing sex right is important.

Say I get positive opk/smiley face on day 14 and I can only have sex once around then, which is likely to be best? I've read conflicting information on this.

Thanks

If you have sex on your peak day (not just positive) then ovulation usually occurs around 24 hours after that so it’s a good day to try

The best time is 2/3 days before ovulation so if you're having signs of ovulation, then you need to have sex then. So say you're due to ovulate on Friday if you can have sex on Tuesday and Thursday then that might cover you.

It's such a difficult thing to time perfectly because there are so many variables in each cycle, hence the need for regular sex.

I suppose the only way you know you're covered and not have too much sex, is every 3 days through out every cycle.

Out of sheer noseyness, what's the reason for the three day rule?

Good luck!!

Thanks. I read something that said there's the highest likelihood of pregnancy if it's 4-6 hours or ovulation. So if I have the smiley face (peak) that would imply the best time is actually the next day. Or am I overthinking it?

You need to have the sperm waiting in the tubes ideally so once you get a positive opk, then hopefully in 24 hours or so you'll release an egg

Thanks. It's not really a rule. Ive just noticed that of he's had sex he's really not horny for the next two days. However I'm up for sex almost any time.

If I try more often he will say he's too tired or it just won't work then he feels bad. When we do have sex it lasts often 50 mins and is amazing, then he's worn out for a bit. So he wants me to pick the days most likely to work for TTC.

We know he's a bit too stressed so he's working on that. But rather than pressure him and make him feel bad I've just had to accept that if we're going to try, it's on these terms.

I definitely wouldn’t leave it 2/3 days before ovulation. Sperm can survive up to 5 days but most die off before that, plus they need to be strong enough to still fertilise an egg. Whereas if you have sex when you get your peak it’s highly likely you will ovulate in the next 24 hours and the sperm are ready and waiting for the egg, then the egg is viable for another 24 hours to get fertilised. Maybe the day before your peak at the very latest but aim for peak.
