Does anyone use the new Apple Watch for fertility?

Hello!

I came off the implant a year ago, and we started actively trying about 5/6 months ago, with ovulation tests. There’s not been a sniff of anything, just negative tests every month. I’ve had my hormones checked and they’re all good. DP is due a sperm analysis but hasn’t got around to it yet (🙄). I’m also going to have an internal ultrasound in march as I was having some abnormal bleeding, though it seems to have settled now.

I’m trying to think of there’s anything else I can do to give it the best chance and I wondered about the new Apple Watch, as I know it was marketed as having fertility monitoring and tracking on it. I use clear blue tests at the moment as ovulation seems to come a bit sooner than it ‘should’ and sometimes I don’t fully catch all 5 days before- though admittedly I’ve only just cottoned onto this so will be able to be more prepared going forward.

Does anyone have one? Is it any good for fertility tracking?

Oooh I was going to ask an Apple Watch question too! You’ll have to excuse me whilst I geek out slightly 🤓

I take my BBT each morning when I wake up but as I work shifts, I wake up at different times. My old Apple Watch was on the blink so I got the new one, also hoping to use the fertility feature.

The fertility feature isn’t great, as it’s just the cycles section on the health app. It’s very basic. I think some people would like it for this but I use fertility friend as it has loads more visuals and just a lot more comprehensive. You can barely compare the two really.

However, the temperature feature is really interesting. The major selling point for me for this feature is that you don’t have to wake up at the same time to take a temp, it’s automatic and does it whilst you sleep as an average temp I believe. It’s not BBT but it’s wrist temp so it works like any other wearable thermometer.

I got mine just before ovulation this cycle so I have decided to carry on doing BBT each morning as normal whilst also wearing the watch. I have attached my FF chart so you can see the difference in the temps!
The blue line is my bbt- so you can see when it’s a triangle rather than a dot along the line it’s where I’ve woken up earlier or later than usual.
The orange line is my Apple Watch temps.

I think next month I’ll probably drop the BBT thermometer as I do think that the Apple Watch taking my temp is probably more accurate than taking my BBT at different times.

BBT is good to check that you’ve ovulated, but doesn’t help pre ovulation. The cycles app is ok for that but it’s just a calculation based on previous cycles and cycle length etc.
I would invest in some cheap internet ovulation strips as they will give you an idea as to what level you’re at each day before you ovulate. You can use them alongside the Premom app which will calculate your LH t/c ratio and you’ll hopefully see it going up gradually before you reach a peak/ positive reading then you’ll ovulate about 24 hrs later.

P.s. side note on my chart- if anybody knows what went on with my temp this morning I’d love to know 😒

Hiya I’m using it too this month! I didn’t use opks so I am unsure of if it got o date right, but we will see! The Apple Watch app for wrist temp is a bit crap so I put it into fertility friend too and it estimated the same date as apple so it could be right. We will see, I normally have a luteal phase of 11/12 days but I am not sure if I ovulated later as my cycles do vary by a few days so just waiting to see what happens

Loving the geeking out!! 🤣🤓

Slightly weird question- if you’re wearing the watch at night too, for sleep tracking and temp monitoring, when do you charge it??

@AgeGapBbe i charge it when I’m having a shower or bath, or if I’m going to be sitting on the sofa doing nothing for a while and it has been fine over night. My AF turned up so out for another month

AgeGapBbe · 08/02/2023 18:02

😔 sorry to hear that.

@AgeGapBbe its all good, I can’t bring myself to get upset about it month after month - it just is what it is and I’m in a surprisingly good mood despite AF! How long you been trying for? The Apple Watch is pretty good and I think it pinpointed o within a day or so after the fact

AgeGapBbe · 08/02/2023 18:42

No, I know what you mean. I had my implant out a year ago now, but I suppose we’ve only been properly trying for the past 5/6 months. It just feels like a lot longer!

I used to be really excited- but a job change (more money but much less convenient with a baby) and how long it’s taking, coupled with my sisters sudden pregnancy and subsequent birth has made me feel a bit numb I think. When my period comes I don’t get surprised now like I did a few months ago. I don’t see it happening for me really, which is quite sad. I guess I can only keep trying and hold out hope.

I totally understand and feel same as you. All those are stressful things to go through! Yes holding out hope is the only thing to do really and it will happen for you. It’s just going to take as long as it takes - that’s what I’ve come to think and don’t get excited either.

We’ve been trying since last Jan and caught last Feb but then had a mmc in the spring and we’ve been trying again since late summer properly (after taking some time to recover). So about 5/6 months too, a similar state of meh about it. It’s so tough to not let it consume your life.

AgeGapBbe · 08/02/2023 19:15

I’m so glad to hear that you get it. I see people getting really upset and I don’t feel that, I think I just feel a bit numb really. DP is being crap about getting his sperm analysis done which is really annoying- if he hasn’t got decent sperm, I’d rather we just knew that. At our ages (36 and 56) we’ve not got tons of time but I just can’t imagine what the point of life is without a family and children of my own.

I did used to get really upset each month but realized it was pointless and I was getting myself into a state over something I can’t ultimately control. All we can do is have regular sex and other than that it’s just letting nature take its course. The odds are 20ish % each month of a successful pregnancy so just have to wait really. Ahh I am 35 too so a similar age.

maybe he’s scared of the results? We have to book that in too, but have to go private as our local hospital isn’t doing it due to workforce and is sending us miles away. So got to get the ball rolling on that tomorrow. I would rather know too as there’s lifestyle things you can do to improve sperm. Have you had any blood tests? My 21 day one was fine so I think I’m ok. I might try to get amh blood tests but I am a bit scared of that. I understand re family and children, I dream about us having a kid all the time and I see it so clearly it’s hard to see it not happening.
