High FSH

Hoping someone has been in a similar situation and can offer some advice. I'm 40 TTC no. 3 for 5 months now with no luck. Got pregnant quickly on my first two so got bloods done last week to start checking if anything is wrong. Text from Doc on Saturday that FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) is slightly high - and to check bloods again in six weeks.

Was on about CD 6/7 when I got the bloods done - not sure if that makes a difference.

Have been getting positive ovulation tests every cycle for last few months so am confused and scared by what Google is telling me - early menopause, low or no eggs

Anyone been in similar situation?

Hi,

Did the doctor tell you what your level was?

You'd probably need a full set of cycle day 3 bloods and AMH to see where you are in terms of egg reserve etc.

I'll attach my FSH result at day 3, the range is for within the follicular phase

I'm 42 for info

I had FSH 26, at age 34. Like you, I googled, and was beside myself with worry. Was told to go back for a second test the following month, but I actually fell pregnant that cycle (after almost a year of trying to conceive).

I've never followed it up, so I don't know if that FSH number was correct or not. I have read that it can be affected by stress, and fluctuates throughout the month- you need it done on day 2/3 of cycle.

I also booked straight in for some acupuncture, which I read could balance hormones- I was willing to try anything! I definitely think that helped me.

Try not to worry too much until you've had the second test (easier said than done, I know). It is possible to get pregnant with a high FSH, as happened for me.

Hi both, I hope you don’t mind me asking, but how did you obtain the fsh test? Was it through NHS? Thank you

SPR40 · 31/07/2023 14:49

Hi @FoodFann I wasn't on the initial thread but just in case noone comes back from the thread I thought I'd reply.

I was tested via GP, mine was 48.3, but also had it done privately a few months later and it was 11. So FSH can fluctuate month to month.

You can get tested via IVF clinics or some local blood test centres in general if you Google. Or you can get it done via GP.

Hope this helps 😊

My GP did it when I was struggling to conceive. I'd never even heard of FSH before this! It's usually done on day 2 of cycle I think.
