Delayed period after taking morning after pill

Hi all, looking for some reassurance from anyone that has been in a similar situation please.

Took the MAP within 24 hours for the first time over the Christmas break towards the end of my period as advised by the pharmacy although I thought it was almost impossible to get pregnant so close to your period but took it anyway and then bled lightly for another week.

My period is now a week late and I'm starting to panic, have taken two pregnancy tests and both were negative. Does the MAP affect your periods quite a bit? My periods are super regular, never later than a day or two so I'm freaking out that my cycle is going to be out going forward. Feeling very silly right now and if it knocks them all out I'm going to be on my period for my wedding later on this year so stressing about that now too.

Thanks x

I'm pretty sure the leaflet in the packet says your next period maybe earlier or later than normal. Have a read of the leaflet to check.

What regular contraception are you using?

FfeminyddCymraeg · 30/01/2023 09:35

Yes, every time I’ve taken it I’ve either slipped a period or it’s been a couple of weeks late.

No great when you clearly aren’t intending on being pregnant.

The MAP usually delays ovulation so it’s to be expected.

@FfeminyddCymraeg oh really that's good to know! Did your periods after the first one return to normal? I've been cramping since the day my period was due so hopefully it will arrive soon or just skip one and return to normal next month!

@AutisticLegoLover Thank you, it says later but doesn't give a timeframe so guess I could be waiting a couple more weeks. And I'm not on contraception, not sure if that makes a difference to the MAP.

Are you not using any contraception?

mrstobe123 · 30/01/2023 10:10

@AutisticLegoLover not sure why you need to know that, I'm only asking about the effects of the MAP.

You could control your cycle with the combined pill if you were taking it. You can also get medication to delay your period before your wedding.

@AutisticLegoLover thank you, I wish I could but for medical reasons it isn't an option for me and hoping to start ttc after the wedding. Will just have to hope for the best!
