Prenatal supplement, late ovulation- help!

Hi there,

Just looking for some advice or experiences. I started taking Proceive this month thinking it would help with TTC. It has however caused me to be late ovulating, I’m CD13 and not close to peak on OV tests which I would be by now if not peak entirely. I’ve read that this could be a side effect of excess B vitamins.

Has anyone had this experience? Does a later ovulation affect my chances of getting pregnant?

Hopefully someone out there has some advice, I’m quite stressed about it. Thanks!

No later ovulation does not affect your chances, you have as much chance of conceiving on whatever day you ovulate. Your luteal phase will remain the same, so if you aren't successful your period will show up later than normal, because you ovulated later. I consistently ovulate ~CD20/21 and have cycles ~35 days. In terms of excess vitamins, you actually expel excess B vitamins in urine, so your body kind of absorbs what it needs and gets rid of the rest. You may notice your urine is bright yellow, almost green tinged sometimes after taking B vitamins, that's normal and just them being expelled.

Thanks for that. Yes I had the bright coloured urine and saw that it is an effect of the excess B vitamins but google (insofar as it is accurate) tells me that B vitamin supplements can also cause a later ovulation. And when I search later ovulation it suggests that the quality of the egg is diminished. I’m so frustrated, I thought I was doing the best thing taking the supplement but now I’m worried I will have an extra long cycle with reduced chances of conception.

@NewMomma21 Late ovulation is only an issue if you have a short luteal phase as then there isn't enough time for implantation before AF arrives.

However some people do still manage to get pregnant.

I've been taking agnus castus as this is supposed to lengthen it. As I recorded a peak at CD17 this month and my cycle can be 26 days. I'm at CD28 so fingers crossed...

From research I've read late ovulation doesn't affect eggs but late implantation does.

Thanks for that. I’m sure it’s the pre natals, it’s the only thing I have done differently and no sign of peak on CD14. I’m so disappointed and feel I’ve wasted a month by taking them. I wonder will I ovulate at all now

@NewMomma21 Saw you were looking for help so trying to summarise below.

Late ovulation doesn't affect pregnancy chances, some people ovulate earlier or later than the mid cycle 'norm'. If you aren't used to taking normal supplements (like a multivitamin or woman's vitamin) then when you do take the prenatal it may take time for your body to adjust.

Some people say their cycles are a day or two longer, but again there is no worry there. As Long as your cycle is regular, that is one of the main sign of fertility from gynae. So a regular period should indicate ovulation. For most people it is better to take the prenatal, but always worth a call or visit to your GP to check which prenatal to take, and have a look on the NHS website. It helps prepare the body for the pressure of pregnancy, as a lot of the vitamins and minerals are used up in pregnancy, so needs good diet and prenatal.

Worth getting those clearblue ovulation tests or the cheapie version of them on amazon, to help you track whether you are due to ovulate each day.

Also, it is possible to do a day 21 test to check if you did actually ovulate that month, but its not really essential to do this, most people just do the ovulation sticks.

If you read a couple of the threads you will see people refer to OPKs or ovulation sticks, and there are quite a few experts on the threads!

Hi,

I have taken the pregnacare and procieve vitamins. Both caused me to not ovulate and for period to be approx 10 days late! Obvs not what you want when you are trying for a baby. I now take a procieve only maybe once a week among other vitamins.

Last month I had a hycosy and all my fertility tests have been shown to be okay but partner has a low sperm count. Fingers crossed for you!

@NewMomma21 sorry for dragging up this thread but did you stop taking proceive and did your ovulation improve. I'm in the same situation.

Hi there,

I actually got pregnant that very month and am holding my 7 month old in my arms right now!

So on balance I think it probably did help even though it did delay ovulation.

Hope that helps!
