TTC age 36 - advice needed

Impatientbean · 20/01/2023 12:15

Been TTC for first time for 4 months age 36 - regular sex, using CB OPKs, very regular 28 cycle and nothing, not even a sniff of a BFP.

DP got his prior GF pregnant so he’s not the issue!

Read lots of earlier posts about lucky ladies getting pregnant within 1-3 months 36+ and wondering what’s wrong with me!

Any advice? Trying not to panic

Four months is nothing, though. General advice is to try for a year before you begin to worry.

If you can afford it, get a fertility MOT (for both of you, the fact that he hit someone pregnant previously is irrelevant, fertility can be fickle) to put your mind at rest.

I was able to get tested by my GP at 35 after 6 months of trying so worth speaking to your GP. I was referred to a fertility clinic who did addtional tests and then I was able to get a round of IVF on the NHS. 4 months is not a long time to try but I really sympathise with the disappointment each month. If you can get testing in your area then I would advise it sooner rather than later just to rule anything out xx

I’m 38 I got pregnant on my 5th cycle but was a chemical then again on my 6th cycle which was another chemical then again on my 7th cycle and I’m now around 9 weeks pregnant. 4 months isn’t very long at all I wouldn’t worry at all but you can call the GP after 6 months for tests etc but I warn you with the nhs it will likely be a very long process. The initial tests will be quick but if they refer you to a fertility specialist it’s a long waiting list.

I saw my GP and got the initial tests just before the 5th cycle because of spotting issues I have and those were all good so was told then that I would be on a long waiting list. I then had the 2 early miscarriages/CPs so spoke to them again but was told to get my partner to book a spent analysis as that’s always the next step after the initial bloods and wait and see if I miscarry again.

If after 6 cycles you get the initial bloods and sperm analysis and you can afford it then I would try and go privately or just keep ttc in the meantime

Wishing you the best of luck with this pregnancy, my lovely. Your journey sounds like it’s been so hard. 💗

@PousseyNotMoira thank you 😊 I’m keeping everything crossed. I know I’m not alone there’s so many losses but no one talks about it in real life so until you go through one you don’t realise how common it is

Ah gosh! I know PP have said 4 months isn't a long time but god it feels so different when your POAS every month and tracking with OPK daily.

I had a MMC in July and started TTC straight away, it took 3 months but it felt like a life time. I think as someone else said, definitely look in to private options of fertility tests if you can afford it and speak to the GP as you may not have to wait the "usual 12 months". I'm not making the suggestions because there may be something wrong... because there may not be and you could be pregnant this month! But it's worth knowing either way ❤️

Best of luck OP xxx

If it helps I'm your age too.. I think I've maybe miscalculated my ovulation time. I've tried for two cycles now, but pretty sure it was wrong both times. Try not to worry, I have two friends who are both 36 and fell pregnant in about 9 or 10 months. I don't think it's too late :)

Im 36 as well and starting to get worried 🤦🏽‍♀️
I had one ectopic in August then a chemical pregnancy in November.
I read lots of posts about older mummies so I think we do have a chance I just takes a little bit longer 🤞🏽

Don’t worry, but do book in to see your doctor - tell them youve been trying over a year. They’ll refer you for FSH and some hormone tests which should hopefully put your mind at rest.

Impatientbean · 23/01/2023 11:44

Thank you all for taking the time to reply! Really appreciate your kind advice and words of wisdom. Agree that a fertility MOT will help put my mind at rest so will look into that.

@allgoodthings84 have my fingers crossed that everything runs smoothly for you!
