Low motility and morphology

We’ve been trying for nearly a year and recently went for tests. My first blood test came back fine (second test is next week) and my husband’s sperm analysis came back with low motility and morphology. He is having follow up tests next week.

What are people’s experience with low motility and morphology? Did you do anything that helped you to eventually conceive? Is it likely to be game over now? For reference, my husband and I are both 29.

Trying to keep my spirits and hopes up, especially as we’re still having tests and seeing our options. Just feels like everyone I know is popping babies out so easily and we have so many hurdles in the way.

@Priceslice it's definitely not game over. We managed to conceive last month despite his really poor results. Unfortunately I had an early loss . We were told by our fertility consultant chances of getting pregnant naturally wouldn't be impossible but would take longer and be more difficult and were awaiting icsi . I'm 37 and have pcos, don't have many periods and it happened for us on my first regular period so don't give up hope. It's not impossible at all . It only takes one sperm

We have 2 children via ICSI due to this.

It really depends on how low the results are and other factors. Stress, weight, smoking, drinking, drugs, steroids, environmental factors can all play havoc with sperm production and quality. Assuming the above are all normal and fine, I'd look at lycopene.

Its a naturally occurring compound found in red/orange fruit and veg and some studies have found that a supplement can improve sperm motility and mobility. Its worth a try! Also having weekends away, get out and about, exercise and not making the monthly 'doing the deed' a chore or stress for you both might help.

It really depends on how low his results are and even then may just be the luck of the draw each cycle. My husband had 4% morphology when we were ttc our daughter. No other issues detected in all the very many tests we each had. I was 35 and he was 38 and it took us 15 months to conceive naturally (just in the nick of time before starting IVF). He was on proceive max for months before, and we'd changed our diet to Mediterranean and increased exercise, and actually reduced DTD to give swimmers more chance to replenish (not sure if the latter is scientific but we had a theory and went with it as we'd tried everything else). Who knows what worked but it did eventually so there's every chance for you too. It just may take a little longer than average. Hang on in there x
