Trying to conceive with irregular cycles

Hi 👋

I have been TTC for almost 7 months now with no luck. What hasn't helped is not knowing where I am with my cycles.

My cycles since coming off the mini pill have ranged from 31-43 days. This current cycle (I'm only 2DPO) I ovulated on CD40 so this is going to be at least 52 days and it's driving me mad 😖

I have a face to face NHS doctors appointment next week to discuss my irregular cycles but I just want to know if anyone else has been through the same..

Did you manage to conceive in the end?
Did you have to ask the Dr for tests (such as checking blood for hormones) or did they do this automatically? If so what tests were these?

I'm worried they might palm me off and not take me seriously and tell me to wait a till a year of trying but with these irregular cycles surely something isn't quite right 🤔

I would like to get an idea of what tests they can do for me 😊

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you so much. Really starting to get a bit worried.

No but a friend did! Ovulation test strips helped them get pregnant.

Hi :@Sparklecrystal I'm in the same position, came off the pill in October 2021 and my cycles have ranged from 31-54 days!

I have confirmed ovulation with blood test. I did actually conceive in December (after ovulating on CD40) but sadly ended in a chemical.

The blood tests they'll do are usually LH, FSH, TSH, Testosterone and prolactin. I would also push for a scan to rule out PCOS (I had to get this privately as the GP said as my bloods were fine and I'd conceived, would have to wait). My scan was fine actually, so it does leave a bit of a question mark as to why cycles are longer! But private GP didn't seem to think I would have any problem conceiving again, fingers crossed.

Hi - my cycles were like this and I used the ovulation test things (I think they were clear blue). Helped identify ovulation and fell pregnant soon after starting using them. Good luck!

Hi,

Apologies for the long post but Just thought I would give you my story.

I have always had irregular periods. Up to 130 day cycles. Was tested as a teen for PCOS as I have a few of the symptoms but was told I didn't have it - But I def think if i was retested I would have it. So had always thought it would be really difficult for me to get pregnant.

I came off BC in 2018 as it was really not agreeing with me anymore and my cycles went back to being crazy long. DH and I weren't trying but also weren't really preventing either. I started eating better in 2019 and lost a bit of weight (wasn't overweight but carrying a bit more than I liked) and found out I was pregnant in July 2019. Had my DS in March 2020.

Went back on BC after DS but again hated it. So stopped and like before we weren't trying but also not always using protection. I decided in 2022 to try and get my cycles under control and try for DC2. As I never new if/when in a cycle I would ovulate I knew ovulation strips would be an expensive way to keep tracking. Plus I had read that with PCOS (undiagnosed) they aren't effective.

I went down the rabbit hole of trying to regulate my cycles. I started taking conceive plus, vit D, vit b complex and EPO - Gave me lots of more energy but didnt seem to make a difference to my cycle. I read a Angus Castus - so started that a few weeks later and got my first period in May since Sept 2021. Kept taking the tablets but I didn't get a period in June. In July I had read about a brand called Myova - it has a higher dose of myo-inositol which is supposed to help regulate and promote ovulation in women with PCOS. So I decided 'why not'.

I started taking these in July, along with vit d and b and in Aug I got my first Peak on an ovulation test. I had never gone over a 0.7 and this test was 1.34. DH and I DTD every other day anyway so we continued doing that.

I found out I was pregnant in September and I am currently 22 weeks. I have no idea if the vit actually helped or if it was just a very happy coincidence but I know if i TTC again I will get back on the MY Ova and hope it does the trick.

Good luck OP - I know how frustrating it can be with irregular cycles
