OPK line progression, when to start taking OPKs

Hi, me and my DH are trying for baby number 2. When we were TTC my DD I did use OPKs the cycle that we conceived but I can't remember what CD I started using them on. I'm currently on CD10 and have been using OPKs since CD6 but I haven't started to see any progression of the line getting darker, have I started too soon? When is the best time to start taking them? I don't want to miss my LH surge but also don't want to waste money on POAS!!

I would keep taking opks as your surge could be any day and you don’t want to miss it. I use the cheaper ones for longer (easy at home) and I use the more expensive (clear blue digital) ones from CD9 so I don’t waste money.

my surge was cd16

Do you know roughly when you usually ovulate? I'm usually between CD13-15 so I start taking them on CD10. I did one yesterday at CD10 and could barely see the line, but I know as the days go by it will get darker leading up to ovulation.

@vitahelp and @lucya66, thank you for your reply's. I don't know when I usually ovulate as I haven't been tracking it until this cycle other than on the Flo app and the days that are predicted on there. We've been TTC for about 6months but not really tracking anything more than my cycles. My cycles vary from 25-30days but I don't really know for sure when I may ovulate, according to the app I'm in my fertile window but I've been doing tests for about a week and they're all really faint lines. I can't remember when I started taking them in my cycle when I was TTC baby number 1. I'll keep taking them over the next few days and see if I can pin point my LH surge! 🤞🏻

If your cycles are 25-30 days I bet you’ll ovulate around CD12-17 so you’ll probably see the lines progressing in the next few days and hopefully pick up on the surge. I very rarely actually get a positive ovulation test as I test in the late afternoon and I think I must miss the surge, but I see the lines getting darker and then overnight it goes really faint again, so I can see ovulation was that day (coupled with temp charting which helps confirm it).

I normally see no line progression! Will be very low according to pre mom app (like 0.2) and then will suddenly jump to positive in a matter of hours! I’d keep testing 2x a day (I do 8am and 8pm-ish)
