Private gynae consultations TW miscarriage

Hi all, hoping for some advice. Posting here for traffic rather than on the miscarriage board.
I'm 35, no kids, missed miscarriage in August 22 at 6 weeks and another miscarriage in October 22. We've been trying since Jan 22. Also had a chemical in April.
I'm out for this month having just used up my 6th (yes. 6th, I am an obsessive tester now after the MCs) FRER which was negative, just like the other 5 were.
I've been placed on the waiting list for the recurrent miscarriage clinic in my local hospital but the wait list is 19 weeks long!
We were talking last night about the wait and thought about accessing a private consultation with a consultant to try and have some testing done, but I don't know where to start. I don't know what to look for online, we're not at IVF stage, but more about having bloods done or being prescribed something to sustain the pregnancy if I were to get pregnant again.
Can anyone advise me on where to start, any recommendations, any tips or experiences?
Also, I'd appreciate it if no one chimed in with 'just relax and it will happen'. It did happen, 3 times, and I miscarried each time. I'm so sad my experience has been like this so far.

Hi @justsayso Really sorry for your losses. I went to a private gynae this month after a chemical last month (but mainly because my GP wouldn't refer me for a scan despite suspected PCOS because I had managed to conceive).

Not sure where you are based but I went to a Nuffield Health hospital and they have hospitals all over the country which anyone can book into, so would recommend starting there. They have gynae specialists, some of whom specialise in miscarriage.

I would also ask your GP to refer you for blood tests which could be much quicker as these could possibly indicate a thyroid problem which does make miscarriage more common unfortunately (if TSH thyroid stimulating hormone is higher than 2.5). That's separate from the miscarriage clinic, anyone can get those really at start of cycle.

I really wouldn't be waiting 19 weeks to be honest! Good luck.

Hello.

Sorry to hear about your losses. I had three chemical pregnancies last year and we've been ttc since then.

Has your GP offered you blood tests? I've had two blood tests via my GP so far since June - a full blood panel checking coagulation, protein levels etc. Another one checking my cortisol levels and I have another on at the end of the month checking progesterone levels. I'd like to think you'd be offered some tests outside of gynae?

I also paid for a private scan. It cost £99 and they checked everything - ovaries, shape of my uterus etc. Totally worth the money as it put structural issues out of my mind.

We've gone to an IVF clinic to have our initial investigations and blood tests done (one living child but two missed miscarriages since) and figured this was better than a gynaecologist as, firstly, the cost is the about the same as it's all private, and, secondly, if the need for IVF becomes apparent then we've already jumped through the first few hoops.

I'm under the CRP clinic in Surrey, they have a smaller clinic too in Harley street. Prof Shehata and his clinic is highly regarded I believe. It's very extensive and for me focuses on immune issues. I was already under an ivf clinic so already on progesterone after ovulation etc. I'd guess it was more of the quite heavily medicated approaches than others, but I've not actually been to others, so I could be wrong! I was recommended it on the infertility boards.

And anyone who tells you to just relax should F off!

I should say that their main focus is miscarriage I believe.

Thanks all. I'll go back to my GP in the first instance and see if they're willing to offer blood testing, and then look into a local fertility clinic or Nuffield.

I can’t help with your question but just wanted to agree in solidarity about the ‘just relax’ers. Easily said by people who haven’t had multiple miscarriages.

Shootforthestars · 25/01/2023 20:58

@justsayso I've just suffered my 3rd miscarriage my GP arranged for me to have bloods done this is the first time I'm getting checked for anticoagulant (to do with clotting). The previous times the gp did get bloods done but to check the general stuff tyroid, iron, B12 etc so it's worth asking even for those. I've been referred to gynaecology for recurrent miscarriage but know waiting times are high. I'm considering booking in to get private fertility scanning and consultation the one I looked at is looking like £250 this is at a local 4D scanning centre with a Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist

Really sorry about your losses. I do have a DS but 3 miscarriages between June and Dec. I bypassed the NHS due to wait times to even see the GP. I went to a local fertility clinic for an MOT for myself and DH. It consisted of AMH and Rubella check, Full blood count, Urine test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea and Thyroid profile.

I also had 3D Saline Infusion Sonogram (SIS) to assess the uterus, Ultrasound scan with Antral Follicle Count (AFC) to determine your egg reserve And HyCoSy procedure to check if your fallopian tubes are open or not. I also got progesterone prescription to take from next BFP

The doctor then discusses your options once all the results are in.
