OPK and LH surge detection

Hi,

Trying to figure out how these OPK tests work and whether it needs to be used in succession days. Thinking of clearblue advanced and the cheapie strips.

Is it even possible to detect a ovulation date and LH surge using the test kits only one time?
Or does it need to be used a few days prior in order for it to detect a gradual rise in LH vs your earlier baseline test?

On the cheapie strips, does it just have a predetermined LH level that assumes everyone is the same and once you hit this predefined LH level, the strip will show you're near peak ovulation?
(I thought all woman will have somewhat different LH levels before ovulation so not sure how a predetermined level will work)

Hi OP - yes you do need to do the tests in the lead up to potential ovulation day, and ideally twice a day when you think you might be close to peak. This is because the peak can be quite quick so it would be difficult to catch if you only tested once. As an example, this month I got a peak (test line darker than control) at 5pm. By 9pm when I tested again it had gone back down.

Not sure about your other question but it's a good question! I'd never thought about that before. However opk testing clearly works for many many women on her (myself included) so I wouldn't over think it too much.

Good luck!
