TTC with a short cycle. Does it make a difference?

Although I have a dd I am new to this TTC business. DD was conceived in the first month of trying so didn't think about ovulation etc. We are now a few months in to ttc number 2 with no success. I can't remember how long my cycle was before I had dd but it is fairly short now, around 24 days. I was just wondering if anyone knows if these means fewer number of days when you csn conceive or does it make a difference.
I realise that we haven't been trying very long yet but I hate the uncertainty.

Hi
I can't really offer much advice but just wanted to say that I am in a similar sort of boat.

I am also ttc my 2nd dc and feel as though this is all new to me.
I concieved my ds 7 years ago without giving any thought to ovulation and timing etc within a couple of months.
Feeling very confused atm as I started ttc my 2nd Auguust last year when my AF went awol it was discoverd that a underactive thyroid had caused that to happen.
My AF was absent for 3 motnhs in total and after going on thyroxine it returned in December.
Tbh and I will sound a real dope for saying this but I am not sure what my cycle length was before ttc but vowed to get an accurate picture once I started ttc.
This of course was difficult when my AF decided to disappear.
However since its return in December I have had a 33 day cycle and the latest being only a 22 day cycle.

Now I am still at a lost as to what my cycle length is.
I am also now wondering if I continue to have cycles of around 22 days will this cause me any problem ttc.
Sorry I know this doesn't answer your question but I also hate the uncertainty just like you.

AFAIK (no expert) neveronamonday is right, the crucial thing is not the length of cycle but the length of luteal phase, ie the length of time between ovulation and menstruation. We had 18 months TTC ds1, and I'm sure this was because my luteal phase was too short (temp charting, cycle charting and ovulation test sticks indicated mine was 6/7 days, it needs to be 10-14 for the embryo to have time to implant). I had a 25 day cycle.

But to determine this you need to find out when you're ovulating. A short cycle doesn't indicate anything, particularly. With a 24 day cycle you might be ovulating day 10, and so your luteal phase length would be fine, and you'd have just as many fertile days as someone with a longer cycle.

Get hold of some information on cycle charting - Toni Weschler 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' is brilliant, and will tell you everything you need to know - and knowledge is power!! Good luck!

I have a 24/5 day regular cycle since ds was born (used to be 27 days). Similar to you we are ttc no2 right now (and period is now 2 days late, but bfn so far). I bought some ovulation kits and it showed that when i used an ovulation calander it was stating that I should ovulate 2 days earlier than was in fact the case. I was ovulating on day 12 not day 10. It is possible that I am now pg, still waiting for AF. Otherwise I will take into consideration what systems said about he luteal phase (at 12 days, I should still have roughly a 12 day luteal phase, I think)

I am in the same boat as you we had ds straight away and have been ttc no2 for 6 mths now - hopefully using the ovulation kits has helped.

Thanks. I really appreciate all the information. I think I will invest in a pack of ovulation tests just to see what is going on. AF started yesterday one day late after I had got my hopes up so I am willing to try something new. Based on what I read on the Clearblue website I can start testing on Day 7 so I can get the tests at the weekend and start on Monday. Best of luck to everyone ttc.

I have a 24 day cycle too. Seems to have settled to 24 days since I came off the pill.

The worrying thing is that I apparently ovulated on day 16 of my cycle last time - giving me only an 8 day Luteal phase
