👋
I had my implant out last February, after some months of no periods, and some whacky cycles, I’ve been fairly stable. We’ve been dtd on ovulation a number of times and there’s been nothing. I’ve had my hormones all checked, thyroid was a bit off but I wasn’t that well when I had it all checked so they think it’s that- I’ll be having another check in a few weeks. DP is meant to be sorting out a sample but ‘hasn’t got around to it yet’ 🙄 and I’ve got an internal ultrasound check booked in for March.

We have a large age gap of 20 years, I’m 36. I’m worried time is running out, and I’m worried he might not be fertile enough anymore 😔 he has no signs of infertility- he wants sex, he doesn’t really struggle with any element of it all, he does a fair bit of exercise and is a vegetarian so has a fairly good diet. I do regular ovulation tests every month now, and I track them so we know we are dtd at the right time. We usually manage 2 times per cycle in the right time.

Is there anything else we could be doing? I’ve been taking wellwoman pre conception tablets since before I had my implant out and he’s got the men ones which admittedly he only recently started taking fairly reliably.

I used to feel quite enthusiastic and optimistic about it all but I feel like I’ve lost hope a bit. Not even a snifter of a symptom again this month, I haven’t had one bfp and I’ve done far more early testing than I should over the past few months…!

Hiya. I’m new here so no expert but I’d try and have a bit more sex if you can. NHS says to go for every 2 - 3 days throughout the month. All it takes is for you to ovulate slightly later or earlier than you think and you could be missing it.
I know it’s hard trying to have sex more than you both want to… I’m 37 and we tried SMEP last cycle. Wow. DH said he felt ‘like a husk’ 😂

Well, I don’t miss ovulation because I track it, but I don’t always get that many days of ‘high fertility’ before it hits peak. We did try dtd 2 days running but the results of day 2 weren’t very good… and it didn’t seem worth it 😬
we could have more sex but it’s hard to fit it in with working late and we don’t generally like to when his kids are staying (teens)- though we do if it’s peak time!

When trying for number two at 35 it took us a year to conceive. It had started to feel a bit hopeless.

Things we did at varying times that may have helped-

  • i cut down my stress massively by getting away from a bad work situation
  • my partner went teetotal
  • we took the conception vitamins
  • I tried to have sex every three days over the potential fertile times/ before and after and my partner wouldn't masturbate at this time either. a friend who had been through fertility treatment suggested they had been advised that sperm is better quality if its not being made every day

I'd ditch the ovulation tests for a couple of months and like the PP said, just aim for sex every 2 or 3 days.

Spend the money you'd usually pay for the tests on a bottle of good wine to share or a night out together.

I know, it’s a real strain isn’t it when you’re just not feeling it etc. Are you doing temperature tracking too? This is my first month tracking temperature. I’ve been tracking ovulation with LH sticks but apparently it’s anywhere between 12 to 36 hours and then your egg waits for up to 24 hours so 🤷🏼‍♀️ how long is a piece of string! I’m hoping the bbt tracking will help pin point when I actually ovulate after my LH peak.
