TTC first at 37

Hi ladies. Been lurking a while and thought I’d join to chat the like minded women.
I'm 37 and TTC our first. Been off the pill since September, didn’t ovulate first month but the next to cycles I have (got peaks on my LH strips and used Proov to confirm). Latest cycle I had some faint positive pregnancy tests but then a big bleed and my period came a few days later so think that was a chemical. Expected it with my age at some point tbh.
My cycles are 26 or 27 days, 4 day periods. I have had LH peaks on day 12 both cycles.
Now on cycle day 5 of cycle 4, so if anyone is older and TTC or on a similar cycle day it would be good to chat.

Hi,
I’m 35 and we started trying from last November. Had a copper coil that was removed and they said normal fertility should resume right away with it being non-hormonal.

So far, I had a chemical in June, and a 9 week loss end of October ☹️

Really worried and not been offered any support / tests yet.

ttcat37 · 26/12/2022 22:19

Sorry to hear about your losses 💐 have you been to the docs? Have they just fobbed you off or are you waiting for tests?

Midnight00 · 27/12/2022 10:06

I’m 37, came off the pill in August and have been actively trying since October. Cycle taken awhile to regulate but now 27/28 days. I’m on CD28 and impatiently waiting for AF, negative test few days ago. Was convinced I had a chance as had cramps
for 4/5 days as hoped it could be implantation…

Annoyingly my natural cycles changed predicted ovulation date to CD22 and now think I could have been too early even though CB confirmed it on CD16. Have been overthinking it this cycle and more time to google etc.

I feel so up and down over last week, it’s tough isn’t it?

ttcat37 · 27/12/2022 10:30

Ah we’re at similar stages then. I don’t know why I thought it’d be easy but I’m starting to realise it won’t be a quick process.
Have you had any sign that AF is en route?
My AF finished then re started this morning after sex. I’ve had problems with bleeding after sex before, gonna have to speak to doc I think. Either it’s that again or it’s something to do with my suspected chemical last week.

OP posts:
Midnight00 · 27/12/2022 12:36

That’s definitely something to bring up with the doctor when you can. Will you make an appointment?

I’m not sure - cramps yesterday so I thought I’d wake up with AF. I’m so confused and now need to stop symptom spotting. I think I’m going to have day 21 and 3-5 bloods done asap and ask DP to have a test. To just check that things are okay. I’ve never had any reason to be concerned but it’s my age that’s worrying me.

ttcat37 · 27/12/2022 15:29

I probably will, as they really panicked about it last time and I was on the cervical cancer pathway within a day. I had all the tests, scans, colposcopy etc, had some pre-cancerous cells but which wouldn’t explain the bleeding. They sent me for a biopsy of the uterus which involved an instrument of some sort being inserted through my cervix. I passed out from the pain which was the worst I’ve ever experienced and when I came around there was a lot of blood. No explanation for it but I never bled again after sex and nothing was ever found that could have caused it. The nurse who looked after me predicted it- “sometimes it just gets backed up, this might sort it you know” and she was right.

I really hope for you that AF doesn’t come and you get a BFP!! DH has bought a test online so we can make sure everything’s working his side.

Midnight00 · 28/12/2022 10:00

Gosh sounds like you've been through a lot already and yet no explanation for you. Let's hope 2023 is our year!

I've done another cheapie test and it's negative, reluctant to waste a frer as my bbt is going down. Wonder if it's stress that's causing this cycle to be longer. I've been having acupuncture so will speak to hear about it in the new year.

ttcat37 · 28/12/2022 11:56

I’m hoping if I ignore it it’ll all go back to normal! Will see how I get on this week.

Ah, if you’re CD30 or something by now you’d think a test would show a bfp if it was going to be positive, if you’re ov day was CD16 as predicted. How did your tracker predict ov day as CD22? I can see why you don’t want to get your hopes up if BBT is coming down.

OP posts:
Midnight00 · 28/12/2022 13:25

The bbt didn't rise as expected so natural cycles moved ovulation and this only appeared on app around day 26. Yup, CD29 today and AF 'predicted' at weekend so I'm going to do best to hold off testing again until 31st (as will want to drink!) but will expect AF to arrive before then.

Did you use Proov for your partner's test? His GP told him wait 12 months to test but he's going to call again.

ttcat37 · 28/12/2022 15:18

Ugh, the TWW is the pits. When I’ve got zero symptoms and I feel totally normal I find it’s a relief when it finally arrives so I can start thinking about the next cycle. And have a drink!

No he’s bought the Exseed test, it’s not arrived yet but I’ll report back 🤣 I used Proov for my progesterone test, it was a very strong positive (confusingly 1 line = positive) which I guess it would be if I had fallen pregnant as I thought. I just wanted to make sure I was definitely ovulating, as my LH peak isn’t as high as pics I was seeing online (a ratio of around 0.9 - 1.1 and I was seeing people with much higher).

OP posts:
Midnight00 · 29/12/2022 18:05

Well AF arrived today so at least I can focus on the next cycle. Booked blood tests so that's a step in right direction.

I'm getting similar results at peak OPK as you, will be interesting to see about progesterone levels. It's a minefield out there!

ttcat37 · 29/12/2022 19:00

@Midnight00 I’m glad you know now and that you’ve got blood tests booked. Onwards and upwards.

My DH did his Exceed sperm test. It measure volume, concentration and motility. Volume and concentration are good but motility is low. Apparently the other 2 can make up for this and overall his test came back as ‘normal’. He has to do a follow up in 10 days. With the chemical last week I’m not tooo worried at the moment. The test is good though. You can plug something in to your phone with the slide in it, and watch the sperm moving (or, not 😆🫠)

They date you from the first day of your last period rather than the time of conception or positive test.

I can’t believe it either. I feel normal other than the big belly, heartburn and the little boy kicking away in there! He has been very kind to me to be honest, no sickness or anything, not that I would have cared!

I’ve got everything crossed for you for when it’s time for you to test 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

@ttcat37 ah a little boy how lovely. I'd love a little baby boy.
I actually tested this morning and got a BFP. I'm 9 days past my transfer which I think is equivalent to 14dpo. My official test date isn't until Friday tho but I caved. I'm absolutely terrified and can't help but think the worst as I have the worst cramping. I'm hoping this one sticks. My test is alot stronger than it was with my chemical and even tho I'm only 9 days past my transfer I have a multitude of symptoms which I'm hoping is a good sign. I suppose I can't change it , what will be will be but hopefully this little one clings on.
So much for them saying they would have a very low chance of implantation. I actually put two in based on that . I could end up with more than I bargained for 😆

Omg it would make my Christmas if this was it for you so you must be overjoyed!!
I had cramping for ages, for my first trimester on and off and it felt just like period pain. I also had chemicals but when I got my BFP with little boy it was so obvious compared to the chemicals. I truly hope this is your Christmas miracle (or miracles!!) and have everything crossed for you!!

@ttcat37 that makes me feel alot less concerned. I think after having chemicals it's so hard not to fear the worst isn't it. I over analyse every little thing.
I think a sticky bean truly would be the best Christmas present ever .
Please do keep in touch

I was so afraid but deep down I knew that this was different. I would definitely recommend getting a scan at 6 or 7 weeks. Seeing the heartbeat was incredible. I’ll keep my eye on the geriatric thread to follow up your progress! I’ve got everything crossed for you!
