I have one scheduled this week and am absolutely bricking it. I’d love to hear any positive experiences?

I only have one tube after an ectopic in 2020. I also have endometriosis and pretty painful periods so am no stranger to intense cramps.

Hi @TTC5yearsx i had one a couple of years ago. It wasn’t painful for me. I didn’t have a blockage, and three days later conceived my DD ☺️

TTC5yearsx · 12/12/2022 20:38

Amazing thank you so so much @Golaz that makes me feel better

I had one on my last cycle. It was quite painful but only for a few minutes, certainly bearable. I had a little cramping after but nothing too bad. For me, they found no blockages and we're still classed as 'unexplained' infertility. Hoping for a BFP soon as a lot of people find the Hycosy makes them more fertile for the following few cycles.
Good luck with yours! :-)

I found the insertion into cervix briefly quite painful (7/10? But for 10secs) Then the fluid a profoundly odd sensation which made me feel very dizzy but did not hurt at all. Taking it out also didn't hurt at all. Tummy a bit crampy after.

Beyondshit · 12/12/2022 22:05

I've had two. I'd say uncomfortable rather than painful... Take a Solpadine an hour before you go in.

stephyybhy · 12/12/2022 22:13

Mines was absolutely fine. Never felt a thing, I was terrified going in after reading people were in so much pain! I did however take some codeine before I went in so that prob done the trick! Good luck

Cinnamontoas · 12/12/2022 22:15

Oohhh good luck.
Mine hurt, I wish I'd taken stronger painkillers and I had a swollen tummy for a bit after.
I heard lots of other people got pregnant soon after so good luck to you too

Thanks for asking this. I’m having one next month - fingers crossed it helps us both!

TTC5yearsx · 15/12/2022 16:41

Hi all! Thanks so so much for sharing your experiences. I had mine today!

I took 2 codeine and 2 ibuprofen an hour before. I have to say, the worst part for me was the catheter. It caused instant period cramp but I have quite bad PMS anyway so nothing I’m not used to! I just laid back and took some deep breaths. For me within a minute of the catheter being in place and ballloon inflated the cramp started to subside.

The dye was a funny crampy sensation but at no point was I in awful pain, it was simply uncomfortable for me! I felt completely normal after, and still do. I’ve had a bit of pink discharge when wiping which I’ve read and was told is normal.

My remaining tube was clear. I feel so happy and overwhelmed as I’ve worried about that since my ectopic 3 years ago.

A true and honest account! Baby dust to all of you ❤️

@Readaboutyourself I worked myself up all week and have been terrified. Please try not to be like me! It really is over nice and quick ❤️ I was pleasantly surprised. I almost skipped out of the hospital! Haha

Hi! Sorry to jump onto your thread! I just wondered if you could let me know what a Hycosy treatment is and how it works / the benefits?

Silly maybe - I but I've never heard of it before and have been really struggling with TTC for over 3 years now. I'm at the point where I'd try anything!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 15/12/2022 17:56

It's not a treatment @onestepps , it's an assessment. Checks your fallopian tubes are open. Only advised for those not ovulating properly

Thank you so much 😊I’m almost looking forward to it because it feels like progressing towards a BFP and we’ve been trying for a year x

I ovulate fine but have been referred to have one to cross blockages off the list.

I also looked at going private and it was £530. Hope this helps.

TTC5yearsx · 15/12/2022 22:12

@onestepps I wouldn’t say it’s for those not ovulating properly. I had it because I’ve had an ectopic pregnancy in the past and lost my right tube. It’s to check for tubal blockages. Ovulation or lack of can be corrected using Clomid. HyCosy is purely to check for any tubal blockages as if your tubes are blocked this can hinder getting pregnant. I hope that helps! ❤️

TTC5yearsx · 15/12/2022 22:14

@onestepps I think it’s worthwhile for sure to try if you’ve been TTC 3 years and especially if they’ve advised! I totally get you. You get to that point where you just want to try everything and anything possible. It’s definitely a tick box for you. I am all for it now, having had one. For how quickly it’s over, and to see your tubes aren’t blocked, it’s sooo worth it! I hope this thread helps if you decide to go ahead. Really not as bad as it sounds or looks!

TTC5yearsx · 15/12/2022 22:17

@onestepps omg also I forgot to say… some women (not all) have reported increased fertility after having a HyCosy. My sonographer brought this up to me today. She said sometimes… if you’ve got some ‘debris’ in your tubes it can flush them out. So even if it’s not a complete blockage, it can shift a mucus build up which is why some women become pregnant in the months after. Praying for your BFP soon!

OP posts:
Golaz · 15/12/2022 22:55

@onestepps as others have said, technically it is a diagnostic procedure to check blockages in the fallopian tubes, but there is a fair amount of evidence that it increases fertility in woman who aren’t diagnoses with a blockage. I had one done for this reason- paid privately , and I did successfully get pregnant straight afterwards.

BaaHumbugg · 15/12/2022 23:00

I had one and conceived about 4 months later. Fingers crossed for you OP

MK85 · 17/12/2022 03:57

Its different for everyone . For some women its not as bad but i honestly found it's quite painful. When they insert the tube its a bit like period pains but the dye was the most painful part. It feel like alot of pressure inside that was going to explode lol but it only lasts a few moments. They whole thing is over in about 5 10 mins. I had bleeding afterwards for several hours but there's no recovery time. I went shopping after my procedure.
