So this is a bit embarrassing since i'm 16 but i really need help! I'm currently 5 days late on my period and i did a test yesterday but it showed negative, so i thought maybe i would get my period today, yet i haven't! That makes me worry that i might be pregnant which i def DO NOT want since i'm not ready yet, but id like to know asap if i am so i can act on it quickly. Can someone tell me what i should do?

Hi sorry you're going through this, you must be super stressed. There's loads of reasons your period could be 'late', the main one being that you may have ovulated later this month. The day you ovulate can vary from month to month and this dictates when your period is due (usually a set number of days after ovulation +/- 1). If the test is negative it's highly unlikely that you're pregnant. Try again tomorrow with your first urine of the day, using a properly sensitive test such as first respond early result (they are pretty expensive sadly but you can trust the results!). If you need to pop out and get some first, still save your morning urine to use. Wait up to 10 for the result and look for any faint lines, as it could be positive just very early and veg subtle. If it's negative try to put it completely out your mind for another week. As stress can also delay things. Good luck!

Hi thank you for answering, i will take another test tomorrow, but how can i tell if i ovulated late this month? Also i took the test very late at night so could that have effect also the result of my test?

You will never know when you ovulated off you weren't tracking ovulation at the time. Oh just have to bear in mind that you could have ovulated later than you thought, which means period isn't actually 'late', it will be due later than you think.
The only way we can ever know when our period is 'due' is by tracking our cycles over a period of months and knowing our usual luteal phase (the time after ovulation waiting for your period) and tracking ovulation to know when the luteal phase begins.
Evening urine may well have been less concentrated so yes that could effect the results and also the sensitivity of the test makes a big difference
