Reoccurring chemical pregnancy TTC 5 years

Hi everyone, i have secondary infertility. Well I say secondary but conceiving my son took 2 years….so it feels like the past 8 years of my life have been shaped by my ttc journey.

after my son (5 and a half years ago) we started trying straight away. I have PCOS but get a relatively regular period and an under active thyroid which is under control. I am taking Sukarrto (metformin replacement), levothyroxine, pregacare and sometimes iron tablets occasionally. I also sometimes do hijama (wet cupping)

clomid and femera did not work for me over a years course.

I had ovarian drilling surgery in May, after which I have been tracking ovulation using ovucore and I’m pleased to say I’ve ovulated pretty much every cycle.

after 4 years of nothing, last year (after my first hijama session) I fell pregnant, I sadly miscarried at 7 weeks before I had the chance to get a scan.

fast forward a year later and I have managed to get pregnant 2 more times but miscarried at 5 and 6 weeks, again before I could do a scan.

they have said I could be put on cyclogest if I was able to hold out until 7 weeks, but I don’t seem to be able to.

can I ask a few questions please:

  • what supplements are you taking?
  • any experiences of reoccurring CP and you go in to have a healthy baby? What were the interventions?
  • what tests should I request and which ones should I expect on the Nhs?
  • after 3 MC what is the process to get refereed to the RMC unit?
  • i managed to catch the embryo this time and have sent it for testing, did anyone have any answers by sending this?
  • I always have raised ESR levels, drs don’t know why anyone with a similar experience?

It’s bumping this thread…I know it’s a bit of an essay but was hoping someone can shed some light on their own experience.

Can you get your doctor to look into this further? Have your progesterone levels been checked ?

LethargicButAwesome · 09/01/2023 17:40

No they haven’t but I have been prescribed cyclogest if I fall pregagnt again and I hold out long enough to confirm the pregnancy via scan

I would do your research but I would've thought it would make sense for you to use that a few days from ovulation to ensure when it attaches to your uterus/lining that there is some progesterone to allow it to grow in the first instance. Otherwise I wouldn't have thought you'd ever get past the 4/5 week stage.

Just to add I've been doing my research only because I've recently had three chemical pregnancies in a row

LethargicButAwesome · 10/01/2023 07:48

Sorry for your loss @TulipVictory what I have researched corroborates what you are saying, however what I have also read is it is down to the consultant. So decide to offer cyclogest before the scan and others….don’t. I seem to have one that doesn’t :( and firstly, I really want to fall pregnant again but I’m super scared the intervention they are giving me will be too late!

I know this may be a bit cheeky but could you possibly say that you've had a positive pregnancy test to get it prescribed and then try it post ovulation and hope the bean sticks ? 🤞

LethargicButAwesome · 10/01/2023 14:19

i hVe already got it prescribed….she gave me the script…hmmmm maybe I wait for a positive then start taking it with consulting? That’s given me food for thought!

it’s taken me 5 years to get to this stage so it’s not a given I will fall pregnant…so will wait for a positive before I start using….

I'm sorry for your losses @LethargicButAwesome just to say, your losses are not chemical pregnancies, particularly as you managed to catch the embryo. Have you had any feedback from that?

You can ask your GP to refer you to a recurrent miscarriage clinic for further testing. Depending your age, Tommy's clinic will see you after 2 losses.

My history is really complex - infertility and 6 recurrent pregnancy losses over 5 years. Progesterone didn't work for me. Nhs tests showed nothing so I'm under a private doctor now. I have immune issues attacking the pregnancy but I still lost a healthy baby. Sending love ❤️

LethargicButAwesome · 10/01/2023 17:41

I am so sorry for your losses @VenusStarr sucks.

takes forever to get pregnant and when you do it’s torn from you….

for 4 years there was nothing then I’ve had my 3 losses over 1.5 years…

never really sure what a CP meant, just assumed an early loss. I have passed an embryo Everytime.

funnily enough I received a call from
the hospital today with results, have been told my sticky blood markers are high and I need to retest in 6 weeks time. Not a diagnosis at this point as tests need repeating but almost a sense of relief that there is potential intervention that may give me hope in the future.

again, the advice was we need to detect a heart beat before we can prescribe anything….I’ve been doing some online reading however and I think if I get pregnant again…I may just start taking baby aspirin. I know im just going to Google like crazy now until I get the next set of results.

Really hope it works out for you, hugs you are not alone xx

@VenusStarr I think a lot of people on Mumsnet have a misunderstanding about CPs and think they're just faulty tests.
CP is a very yearly pregnancy loss, sometimes defined as loss before 5 weeks, sometimes as loss before 6 weeks.
OP I guess in your case you had one very early loss (CP) and two early losses.
Wishing you all the best ❤️

Hello @LethargicButAwesome I am so sorry for your losses. I have a similar story to yourself. TTC for four years before I had laparoscopic surgery and conceived my 2 year old son. We’ve been trying for our 2nd for a year now and have had 5 early losses. I have been prescribed progesterone from ovulation and 150mg of aspirin a day which I started last month. Sadly I didn’t conceive last cycle, I really thought I had. I’m not sure how you feel, but I feel so surprised seeing a negative test after so many positive in a year. I’m awaiting results for sticky blood. It is interesting to know that they repeat the test thank you for sharing that. Wishing you all the luck X

LethargicButAwesome · 11/01/2023 21:34

@Amyjones86 thanks for sharing. Interesting you were prescribed cyclogest straight after ovulation I have heard others who hVe been prescribed the same. my hospital is adamant they will only start any type of treatment after a heartbeat has been detected. It’s really frustrating especially with such early losses.

my blood test results took a month to come back.

will let you know what my bloods say. I haven’t tracked this month so no idea when AF due but broadly guessing in a weeks time.

I had recurrent mc at the same sort of times as you, although they were missed mc so only picked up weeks later. Anyway, I was diagnosed with Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) at 16w into this pregnancy, as the result of bloods I’d had done 11 and 4 months previously- it just took them that long to send the results! I was very lucky this one clung on. They don’t know how exactly it’s linked to early pregnancy loss but they think it can effect blood flow to the pregnancy/developing placenta.

I am now on aspirin and blood thinner injections until delivery. If you’re diagnosed with the same clotting issue as me as the result of the repeat bloods you should be on aspirin and blood thinners from you get a positive test.

Tommys have a great page on APS. I’m not saying that’s what you have, but if you do find that’s the case after this next set of blood tests you want to be able to advocate for yourself to get the appropriate treatment rather than mess about waiting on a heartbeat.

LethargicButAwesome · 12/01/2023 13:03

Thanks @TheCraicDealer that's really helpful.

I think perhaps I need to be a little more forceful with them. A couple of people have mentioned Tommys so I may well speak to them and see what they advise.

Does anyone know what brand of baby aspirin to get? When I asked the chemist they said ehc or dispensable left me dumbfounded?

I get mine from b&m, its in a yellow box, 75mg. It's about ÂŁ1 for 28 tablets. X
