Hi everyone, just wondered if there was anyone else feeling like me. Im 40 and already have 5 children, im feeling quite broody at the moment , my youngest is 4 and my eldest is 21.I would love to have another baby but just hate the thought of what family/friends would think or say. My partner would have another one too if i really want to have one. Why do i feel like this and will these broody feelings ever go away. I need to make a decision soon, and wish i could forget what other people think......should i go for it or am i being greedy as i have 5 lovely children.

I take it you think people won't be positive if you were to conceive again, and that is what you hate? It really is no one elses business and you can tell them so. They aren't the ones gettin gup in the night, doing the feeding, giving the cuddles, etc etc

I have 3 and have always wanted more but I also know if I had another 3 and I would still want more.

ebeson · 30/01/2008 14:26

Hi NAB, your right, im sure others wouldn't approve as i have a large family already, but still cant help letting others bother me.I keep thinking maybe i will just leave it to nature and if it happens it was meant to be , as i know it might be alittle harder getter pg this time as im abit older.

I think you have come to the right place for a bit of positive reinforcement

There are some lovely people on here with lots and lots of children. I'm hoping they'll be along soon to give us the low-down.

I have 4, but think I'd like 2 more. In my mind, 6 won't be that different to 4. Am I misguided I wonder?

Oh go on, you know you want to!

JustMissyNow · 30/01/2008 14:48

i would have loads of children if our finances were to allow it!

i say go for it!
sod what others think!

Playingthewaitinggame · 30/01/2008 14:59

You can always taling to LG&T (Largeginandtonic) on the waiting ttc thread. She has 6dc and is waiting ttc dc7 later this year!!! You are by no means the only one.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 30/01/2008 15:08

ebeson - i am pg with no 6 at 40
my eldest only 15 though
responses vary and i try to ignore/not resent the less than positive ones
i thnk this is what i do and i like it - moan buckets- but like it - i am lucky!
my closest friends said stuff like 'feels right' ' lovely to have another one of them' 'you do it well'

others have looked horrified/said 'how will you cope?'

i have no other family due to unhappy life prior to marriage so its lovely for my children to have a lot of 'each other' iykwim!
go for it!

Judy1234 · 30/01/2008 15:15

Why does it matter what people think? I wouldn't rule out having another although I'm probably too old now. It would matter the slightest to me what other people thought. I've got 5. If you do want another the sooner you get started the better.

gemmiegoatlegs · 30/01/2008 15:18

what's the difference between 5 and 6? I say go for it, it would be a shame to regret not having another baby in years to come

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 30/01/2008 18:25

We wanted a big family as our children won't grow up with cousins like their dad did so we figured our grandchildren would have loads of cousins. We could only have 3 children but hoping for lots of grand children.

evenhope · 30/01/2008 18:34

I know what you mean. We had 4 -aged 20, 18, 16 and 14 when I got pg and we were worried sick about what people would say. After 2 missed mc we couldn't decide whether to try again ("what would people say") and luckily events overtook us and I fell pg again while we were dithering. Now we have a 10 mo charging round the room

Funnily enough, my mum (who was adamant we had far too many children) said to us over Xmas that we ought to have another one to "keep DD company"

(I'm 44 BTW)

Thanks for all your replys, your all so kind and have made me feel better about it all. Would love to hear from more of you in similar position to me.

Wow you're BRAVE!! I'm the total opposite to you, one is more than enough for me! But really bollocks to what other people think. Who are they but mere 'extras' in your life? My friend, who's nickname on here is Aunty Mandy has 6 kids and she's similar age to you.
I would love dd to have a sibling but I'd need a surrogate to do the brave part of it for me!

3Ddonut · 02/02/2008 15:18

It's no-one's business but your's and your dh's, go for it, you know you want to!

My friend had 5 and decided to 'round it up' to 6 and had twins!!! hehehehe!!! she loves it!!! some people are unkind, but most just admire her!

MrsPuddleduck · 02/02/2008 15:19

You are not being greedy at all and presumably your older children are not so demanding on your time and attention any more (will not to the same extent as a baby).

If you don't you will always look back and regret it.

lemonstartree · 02/02/2008 19:16

go for it. Its no-one else business, If you have the energy and the finance then good luck to you Have 3 and would love 4!

SparklyGothKat · 02/02/2008 19:19

I have 4 and want one more.My youngest is 4 months. Am 29 atm, so younger than you, but part of me thinks that people will think I am mad

ebeson · 02/02/2008 19:28

Your all so right, but still find it hard telling people i would like another one. When i have mentioned in the past to my dh's mom that we might have another one she says dont get having any more.....how dare she, i never ask her to look after my children ever so whats it to her?

generaldogsbody1 · 02/02/2008 23:16

I did post a huge message but lost it. to put a long story short, we have 3, he has 5, I wouldn't mind more but he says no!!!!

Stopfighting · 02/02/2008 23:24

I have 5 and am also at that stage of trying to decide whether or not to have a 6th and final one.
My issue is I have 5 healthy kids. It would be a disaster to be 'greedy' and go for one more then have something go wrong. I can't seem to think clearly about it without worrying about that. Has anyone else experienced this?

nappyaddict · 03/02/2008 00:19

it is really up to you how many children you have. i know someone who had 9. ignore what family/friends say or think. if you want more children go for it. as for something going wrong you could think that after having just one child so i think you have to ignore feelings like that. there's a lady on here who has 8 or 9 children but i think she too suffered from miscarriages and it didn't stop her ttc more.

Emmsy1 · 03/02/2008 08:31

I have 4 DC ages 3,4,6 and 8 we are TTC are 5th, I am nearly 43 and have had 2 m/c's in the last 10 months, I have already had people (family members) saying that the miscarriages are 'probably for the best' as I already have 4!! stuff them and stuff anyone else who thinks I am being stupid, I never ask for anyones help, and I will be returning to work next year when my career break comes to an end, I am going to try my hardest to have my last baby before its too late, this thread has definately encouraged me and I hope it does the same for you ebeson xxx

Lomond · 03/02/2008 09:11

If you and your partner want another child then go for it! I would have a huge family if I could afford to. Do not listen to anyone else, all that matters is you know the child will be loved.

Oh and 40 is not old.

Good luck xx
