Recurrent Miscarriage Hope

Amyjones86 · 09/11/2022 21:04

Hello,

I am looking for some success stories please šŸ™

I’m 36 at the end of the month and am currently experiencing my 4th loss this year.

It took nearly 4 years to conceive my son. I had 1 miscarriage a year before. I ended up having a laparoscopy and he was conceived 2 weeks after surgery.

We started TTC again when my son was 15
months last December. I got a positive pregnancy test in January and lost it at 5 weeks.

Pregnant again in March, lost it at 6 weeks.

Chemical pregnancy in June.

Loss at 6 weeks in August.

Now a loss just before 5 weeks.

I have progesterone for the next pregnancy and I have an NHS Miscarriage appointment on 23rd Dec.

Does anyone have any positive stories please? I feel incredibly sad and lonely with no hope.

Thank you ā¤ļø

I’m sorry to hear about your loss.

Even though the pregnancies are in early days, the loss is devastating.

Try not to get pregnant without the watchful eye or a consultant. I saw a program recently where about a clinic where they work with women in the same situation.

Insist on a referral asap. Time is also very crucial due to the age of your eggs.

Good luck 🄰🄰

Allisfairinloveandwar · 09/11/2022 23:23

Google

Recurrent Miscarriage Clinics.and research the consultants then ask to be referred. They will then support you before you get pregnant to maximise the chances of pregnancy progressing through the first trimester. But you need to be under xx years. Therefore time is of essence. Otherwise they will right you off as too old.

Lost count as to the number of miscarriages I had. All 12 weeks and under. Had to stop after I nearly died from blood loss.

SoOverThisCrap · 09/11/2022 23:38

I had three miscarriages after I had my daughter. One in 2019 at 6 weeks, a MMC with twins last February at 10 weeks and a MC at 5 weeks last October. I fell pregnant in January this year and was put straight on to Cyclogest Progesterone pessaries and my rainbow DS will be 9 weeks old on Friday. I also turn 42 next month.

Rtmhwales · 10/11/2022 00:06

I'm in your boat. Three miscarriages in a year, followed by IVF which lead to an ectopic in August. Just transferred another today so we shall see how this one goes.

After three, I'd say get all the tests. Test thyroid, clotting, progesterone, take baby aspirin and progesterone just in case. Test your partners semen. We think that's the issue for us - while he has two kids, his morphology was less than 1% while every test I took under the sun came back with stellar results.

It's soul destroying so I'm really sorry you're going through this too.

Amyjones86 · 11/11/2022 08:05

Thank you so much to you all for taking the time to share stories and advice. I should have mentioned that I do have a referral and have an appointment before Christmas. The progesterone didn’t help this one but perhaps it was taken too late. I have started on baby aspirin too so fingers crossed.

Hello,

So sorry to hear of what's happened to you. I understand as I have just had a 4th loss & booked in for D&C, so scared about it. Blessed to have my amazing son but sad i cant bring him a sibling.

Following too to take in any positive stories or helpful advice.

LAURAPAX · 27/12/2022 17:16

Hi all, just to say sorry for your loss. I’m going through similar. 2nd MMC discovered at EPU today. I’m 37 in 5 months and no living children. Absolutely devastated and can’t understand why this keeps happening to me. We had the private fertility tests done after first MC and nothing obvious found except my AMH was on the lower side of average for my age. I’ve got to decide what route to progress for the MMC I should be 9 weeks but baby stopped growing at 6 after heartbeat seen a few days before. Any advice greatly appreciated or success stories I am feeling so low. Xxx

Wishonastar4 · 27/12/2022 20:37

Im so sorry you are going through this. The D&C was over in a few minutes, quite uncomfortable for a few hours afterwards & i bled for 2-3 days. Don't be worried about that, it's not as awful as it sounds. I saw the consultant who gave me progesterone incase i fall pregnant again. I really hope 2023 things work out for you šŸ¤ž just so sorry you are going through this.

LAURAPAX · 27/12/2022 21:26

Thanks for your response @Wishonastar4 I’m so sad and feel like it is never going to happen for me and my partner - I’m so scared I’ve left it too late. Thanks for your experience with the D&C - it would be my preference but I am just so worried about scarring. Were you concerned about this at all or did they doctors ease your mind? Xx

Wishonastar4 · 28/12/2022 18:51

They eased my mind & ive had other treatment in the passed for dodgy cells & i have managed to conceive, just struggle to get to 8 weeks this time. You have to keep hope & pester the doctors for help. Good luck!!

Pollywoddles · 28/12/2022 19:44

4 years, 2 MMCs, one spontaneous miscarriage, 4 chemicals and finally a beautiful healthy baby girl.

LAURAPAX · 29/12/2022 00:04

@Wishonastar4 thank you - I will be booking in surgery tomorrow so will let you know how I get on. I really hope we have better news in 2023. I’m feeling like my world is crashing down and I’m struggling to see the light at the moment.

wow @Pollywoddles what a journey but so pleased you got your beautiful baby girl. Do you mind me asking what age you started TTC? I am so concerned about mine - 37 in May. Xxx

Pollywoddles · 29/12/2022 01:27

@LAURAPAX Sorry to hear about your losses. I started when I was 38, about 4 months before 39 and I had my daughter the week before my 43rd birthday. IVF didn’t work for us either, I had low AMH. In the end I just had to keep going with ovulation induction and monitored cycles and I finally got a good egg!

I had 2 D&Cs and both showed trisomies so I’m fairly confident my issues were down to poor egg quality. I read It starts with the egg and put as much as comfortably possible into practice from that. I also took CoQ10 600mg, methyl folate, high dose vitamin D and Metformin because my testosterone levels were high. I was on Aspirin and Progesterone after ovulation. Basically I spent a year doing everything I could to improve my egg quality and six months doing monitored cycles to maximise our chances every month.

MargotChateau · 29/12/2022 04:49

Yes, I had ISCI IVF, but I think the discovery by the private IVF clinic I went to, that I had a blood clotting disorder (MTHFR gene) and went on blood thinners, was the reason my last IVF cycle was successful and I’m now 9 months pregnant.

It is worth paying for private tests if the NHS do not offer them to you.

SnookyPook · 07/11/2023 10:18

Hello, I realise this thread is a year old (almost to the day!) But I was just searching for hopeful threads after recurrent loss. I had a MMC at 11+4 in April (baby stopped developing at 7+5), then a CP in Sept and then a miscarriage/query ectopic that I just lost at 7 weeks on Halloween. I'm feeling a bit battered and bruised. I'll be 38 in December so similar concerns about egg quality etc. extremely lucky to have a DS who I had a really easy journey with (conceived cycle 4 and straightforward pregnancy during lockdown).

I just wondered if any of the previous posters have had any good news over the last year? Hope everyone is ok. I'm now awaiting referral to the fertility clinic and hoping it won't be too long a wait.

Whataretheodds · 07/11/2023 10:24

At 41 I had 2 MCs in 1st trimester and am now in 3rd pregnancy, 28w, all fine so far.

I had progesterone in 2nd pregnancy after a bleed around 6/7 weeks, but I don't think that one was ever going to stick.

Have been on progesterone this time since my positive test and aspirin since 13 weeks.

Really good that you are getting checked out, push for referrals, ask what else they can investigate.

In the meantime you and your partner should look after yourselves to ensure best egg quality, and enjoy doing all sorts of fun things that you won't be able to do when pregnant/with a baby or child!

Whataretheodds · 07/11/2023 10:26

@SnookyPook I recognise your username from a precious MC thread. I'm really sorry you're going through this again. Remind me what you've tried already to help embryo quality (remember sperms + egg, it's not just on you!)

SnookyPook · 07/11/2023 10:48

@Whataretheodds neither of us smoke and not big drinkers (I only have a glass or two of wine when AF starts). We're both healthy BMI. I'm on folic acid, vit D and COQ10 (although only 100 so maybe should up it from some posts I've seen). Hubby bit sporadic with supplements.. maybe need to push him on that. Only obvious thing is that we are now a bit older than we were previously.

Whataretheodds · 07/11/2023 11:55

How are your activity levels? And stress? All good stuff for managing your mental health as expecting parents/parents anyway to make sure you have good daily exposure to daylight and regular exercise, decent sleep.

I didn't go as far as changing all my Toiletries and cosmetics but I did stop heating plastics in the microwave and got us metal water bottles (and eventually a metal kettle to replace the plastic one).

Who knows if any of that made a difference

SnookyPook · 07/11/2023 12:24

Decent activity levels. Got a Golden Retriever who gets us out every day 😊 Stress is a tricky one as my stress and anxiety has gone up in direct proportion to the year we've had! But before all this, pretty good. I used to do yoga quite regularly and need to get back into that. Running round and playing with my toddler keeps me fit and happy too most of the time.

I don't think there's anything we are/aren't doing that is a particular red flag tbh. Just been a run of bad luck. We'll see what the consultant says and hopefully on to better days in 2024. 😌

LuneDArgent · 07/11/2023 13:33

@SnookyPook I just wanted to give you some hope. I have had 4 MC in the space of 2 years, all between 7 and 11 weeks. I was 37 years old the first time, I'm 39 now. I had all the investigations from the recurrent miscarriage clinic and no reason was found. I'm pleased to say that I'm now 30 weeks pregnant with a baby girl: 5th pregnancy, and everything is going well this time! The only difference is that I have been taking progesterone in the first trimester. I still can't believe it, I honestly thought it would never happen! I know how you feel, it's extremely difficult and you will never forget, but don't loose hope ā¤ļø

SnookyPook · 07/11/2023 14:18

@LuneDArgent thank you! And congratulations for your current pregnancy 🄰 I will be 38 next month so very similar timeline. Hopefully I will get my rainbow baby too šŸ™šŸ’•šŸŒˆ

Amyjones86 · 07/11/2023 19:41

Hi I completely forgot that I started this thread. I am so sorry to hear about everyone’s losses. I know exactly how you feel as I felt it when I started this.
I did get pregnant the cycle following this post and started 150mg aspirin and progesterone x2 per day from my first positive at 8DPO, barely a line. That faint little line became my second son who is now a 3 week old asleep in my arms. My whole pregnancy was filled with doubt and anxiety and was not easy at all. I am so grateful I got to where we are now and my thoughts and wishes are with whoever comes across this thread and I only hope some of the success stories can give you that tiny glimmer of hope as they did me. Wishing you all the best x
