Anyone used a Persona monitor whilst Breastfeeding?

Hi Ladies,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this one but I am trying for DC2 and am currently waiting for AF to return.

I am still breastfeeding DD (8 months old) twice a day and was wondering of I could use my Persona to track whether or not I am ovulating.

I know the Persona people say that you can't use their monitor whilst breastfeeding even if AF has resumed, but is this because there is a greater risk of you falling pregnant?

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has used the monitor whilst breastfeeding and what kind of results they got.

Hi,

Sorry cant answer your question but am interested in your post. I am also TTC DC2 while BF an 8 month old- 2 direct BF and 2x expressing sessions. Also no sign AF although often feel am having PMT

There are reasons I want to carry on BF and dont want to stop just to concieve but have considered it.

I have tried looking into using ovulation kits to get that first egg but cant really find much reliable info.

Unfortunately my cycles were v irregular pre pregnancy so not sure what will happen when things finally get going again!

Hi DM,

I read that OPK's are a bit hit and miss if your cycle is all over the shop and that to get any chance of a result you would have to test every day for weeks which is v.expensive. That's why I was wondering about using my perona machine instead. Maybe I'll just give it a go and see what happens!

Incidentally, I have been charting my BBT and comparing the temps to the cycle in which I conceived previously, and although I don't feel my cycle is anywhere near normal, I can definitely see it following the same pattern so maybe you should give it a go? Did you chart your BBT before?

Apart from that its BD every 3 to 4 nights for us. I too, am not going to stop BF just to get AF back on track especially as my daughter is allergic to milk and can't have formula.

Well I got pregnant using Persona the first month for DD after using it for contraception. I think it really only works well if you have regular periods - as a consequence it nearly defeats the object. It did teach me that I had very regular periods. I'm still BF my 15month DD but about to wean her off (well try for the second time after a tummy bug). My AF's returned at 7 months though although I know it doesn't mean I'm ovulating. I'm ttcing no.2 from this month.

Night weaning I found brought my AF back I believe nighttime feeding has the most impact. However, I've met a few women who didn't get their AFs until they completely weaned.

I wonder if BFing hormones interfere with Persona - maybe I'll give it go next month and report back! My AF's have gone back to being regular as clockwork so I presume I ovulate day 13 then so may test it to see.

Tapster, when you say night feeds have the greatest impact what do you actually mean by night feeds? Does a bedtime feed at 7pm count? My DD has one at 7.30/8.30am and one at 6.30/7pm but still no sign of AF

She used to take a what I would class a night feed at 4.30am but dropped this one just before christmas.

Loopylulo I mean a feed between 7-7 at night. I think if you are down to two feeds a day and still no AF then I would have to say that stopping may be the only option. You may well be ovulating though. Personally unless there was a great hurry I would wait until your baby is one or even older but I'm very anti formula. How long have you been down to two feeds - AF may well be on its way if its only been a month or less. Good luck.

She's only recently dropped to two day feeds, as of last week when she decided she didn't want the lunchtime one so you may be right about AF returning soon.

DD has a horrendous dairy allergy so all formula is out at the mo ? have some prescription stuff from paed. but she hates it so I'll carry on BFing til she's one. I want to keep the age gap as small as possible between DD1 and DC2. Thanks for your advice.
