Endometrioma/chocolate cyst removal and pregnancy

Unsure where the best place to post this is..

I have recently had an endometrioma (?!) aka chocolate cyst removed off my left ovary.

I have been ttc for 6 months with no success so I had this surgery to aid my chances. My tubes are clear (one was slightly blocked but is now repaired) and I had endo removed from pouch of Douglas. Unsure how big the cyst was but the doctor said it wasn't of concern.

I will be starting ttc again this month.

Looking for success stories of natural conception after the removal of a chocolate cyst please. I really hope that my chances are high :( thanks guys

I had an 8cm chocolate cyst removed from my left ovary in October 2020 and some pockets of endometriosis at the back of my womb. I fell pregnant 2 months later (sadly ended in a MMC) and I fell pregnant again last September but had a MC. However, I fell pregnant again in January and I'm currently cuddling my 8 week old DS 😊

I'm sorry about the two mcs you encountered along the way ☹️ xx

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me asking but what was the wait time of being diagnosed with endometrioma to the removal?

toastonjam · 07/12/2022 20:31

@sunshine67394

I've had two surgeries for endometrioma removals. The first was 3 months, second was 11 months 😬😬 xx

@sunshine67394

I think it does vary hugely depending on your location though - I know others whose wait have been much less than mine!

@toastonjam

Thank you soo much for your quick response.

I had my scan on Monday and got a call for an appt with the doctor this upcoming Monday so hopefully it's not a long wait. I know I have them in both ovaries.

We have been ttc for 18 months now & so just extremely frustrating

I had a ten cm endometrioma removed, endometrial patches removed that were sticking my uterus to my bowel and an hsg in feb 2020 and i was pregnant in the April after 4 years of ttc. Good luck

toastonjam · 07/12/2022 21:04

@sunshine67394

That definitely sounds much, much quicker than mine!! I wasn't aware I had mine in my ovary - it was discovered during my laparoscopy for the endo.

Sending you lots of luck xx

I had a 10cm endometrioma on my left ovary, had it removed and became pregnant 6 months later. He is now over 2 and I'm now expecting baby number 2. Wishing you all the best OP.

Hi! I’m currently not trying to conceive but I go for regular gynaecology check ups and found out that I have quite a large cyst on my right ovary (around 5cm). I was told I had a chocolate cyst and obviously freaked out and started Googling what this meant. I was horrified that what the internet was saying is that if you have an endometrioma (chocolate cyst), it means you have severe endometriosis.
straight away I started googling for an endometriosis specialist and found an absolutely amazing consultant that works on Portland street. I booked in an appointment and had my a chat about my symptoms etc. I was sent off for tests on my hormones and another ‘in depth’ endo mapping ultrasound on Harley street. The consultant was faultless- before even thinking about removing the cyst he was thorough in assessing my fertility prospects in the future. My AMH came back 21 and I had an AFC of 31- he was happy with the result and said we can go ahead and remove the cyst.
I had my laparoscopy last week and recovering well- he mentioned my Endo was superficial and not deep set (which is reassuring as google said a chocolate cyst=severe Endo) and my fallopian tubes were clear and my other ovary was in great condition. I’ll be seeing him in a couple of weeks and I’ll let you know what he suggests further; he hinted that the coil or the pill will probably be the answer until I’m TTC.

I suppose my message here is, make sure you find a consultant that has your best interests at heart and that all checks are done before surgery goes ahead. If you have low follicle count and low amh, it might be worth collecting eggs before surgery!

This was great to hear. Can you remember the specialist that you went to?

Hello! Anyone got any advice about ovarian cysts?? Dermoid and endo. I’m under a consultant currently and he’s not concerned but I really want them out as I’m so aware of them. Looking to hear peoples stories ☺️
