Reccurant chemical pregnancies.. any success stories or similar experiences?

I have had 4 early losses between 4-5 weeks.

I think we have conceived very early with all and I am not sure if that ever has an effect on things? But I have always been able to tell from very early that I was pregnant.

I have a referral to reccurant miscarriage clinic in two weeks time. Does anyone know what I should expect?

I know no one who has ever went through this. I actually find talking to my friends and family about it more damaging as I get the usual:

'you just need to relax'
'you are taking it too seriously'
'I know someone who just stopped trying and they got pregnant straight away'
'at least you know you can get pregnant'

And so on...

I am 29 and each time we have TTC in a cycle we have. I feel like we should be happy for that but it is incredibly hard.

I've had 3 (I think 4 actually) losses between a few days and 10 weeks. Referral to MC clinic was long so I saw a private gynae inbetween. He thinks it's progesterone so I tried a low dose while TTC, then fell pregnant and he moved me into 400mg Cyclogest x 2 per day plus 5g folic acid. I also started taking 75mg aspirin off my own research. Finally got the MC clinic appointment and she said that's what she would have put me on. Obvs this is just my personal story but I didn't want to stop trying for 3 months waiting for appointment. The MC clinic are v supportive and offering me early scans. I'm now 8 weeks so I'm further than 3 of my losses. All the best to you, hope that helps xx

Aismix · 01/11/2022 10:33

Where I am the referral isn't too bad but I have to wait 6 weeks as my last loss will still be in my system.

I have a private appointment bo

I have a private appointment booked in case I am not satisfied with how the other appointment goes.

Have heard that they chop and change what qualifies for treatment. If under 30 would need to be trying for at least a year etc.

Did you have to request the early scans? I have seen lots of info on the benefits frequent early scans for mindset!

How did you get in contact to arrange this after falling pregnant?

The MC clinic call just happened to be 2 weeks after I found out. The reason I had early scans was to confirm pregnancy was in the right place (not ectopic) before going on progesterone. Not everyone does this but my private specialist wouldn't give me the Cyclogest without it. I'd love to know more about the research re early scans?

RinklyRomaine · 01/11/2022 10:51

It was 3 early losses for me, (I have an older DC) but I accidentally conceived again while waiting for the clinic appointment, and that one stuck. I did start baby aspirin immediately on the unofficial advice of my midwife cousin, which I do believe helped as I conceived DS2 a year later and started the aspirin as soon as I found out. I'm old, which probably means it was different for me, but still. 41 and 43 when they arrived if that gives you any hope.

I had a very early scan because conception was so soon after the 3rd loss and they wanted to check it was a new pregnancy. After that we had a private scan, 12w, 20w and then Dx with GD so ended up having very regular scans. It definitely helped the anxiety.

I went down a rabbit hole after one of these podcasts (very helpful (for me) although maybe potentially triggering so don't listen of you aren't feeling up to it).

Dr. Lora Shahine features in both.

Essentially peace of mind is as good as any medicine!

I hear so many stories of people getting regular bloods and scans from early on and wonder how can I get a piece of that 😂.

Wwhite1386 · 01/11/2022 13:15

Thanks so much for finding this for me, yes I know what you mean about the rabbit hole!

Aismix · 01/11/2022 17:02

@Wwhite1386 no problem! I am apparently now a guru on this whole subject.

Did you find going private more beneficial? I have my recurrent miscarriage clinic appointments on the 17th and a private appointment the week after.

I just want to be able to make contact to whoever as soon as I am pregnant again to get Cyclogest or whatever it may be.

So far, I'm having a good experience with the miscarriage clinic. I have a direct number to call and a scan sorted so if I'd had that sooner I don't know if I would have gone private. My bonus with private was that I didn't have to battle getting prescriptions etc, my gp wouldn't give me progesterone. So having that lined up was useful. £220 extra but at least I have 2 expert opinions and it gives me faith that they match up!

Aismix · 01/11/2022 17:58

My last question I promise! Lol

Did you get bloods/testing done with private? If so how long did it take for the results to come back?

OP posts:
Wwhite1386 · 01/11/2022 18:41

No worries at all. Glad to be helpful! I called tommys and asked what bloods they recommended then asked my dr for them. I then got bloods done at my 3rd miscarriage at the EPU so they were ready on the system for my nhs miscarriage referral. I asked for thyroid too as that wasn't standard. Then I took all the results to the private. Usually if it's within 6 months they will accept nhs results.

AdriannaP · 01/11/2022 18:46

Hi OP,
i had a very similar issue. Three early miscarriages and about 3-5 chemicals. My beautiful rainbow baby is sleeping on me right now. I had a ton of tests and a few issues have been identified. I hope this might be helpful for you too. In the end I took:
-high dose folic acid
-prescription vitamin B
-blood thinners (from ovulation)
-progesterone (from ovulation)
-aspirin

This helped me carry my pregnancy to term. I was declared high risk and had more scans.

Wwhite1386 · 01/11/2022 18:46

Sorry just realised that wasn't clear - so I had 2 sets of bloods. But I think the EPU were more thorough, then I took them to the private guy and he said that was fine. Sone weren't even printouts, just lists of numbers written down from the receptionist

AdriannaP · 01/11/2022 18:47

Good luck, you are young and can find the right medication to help you! Please explore a progesterone prescription. Your GP can prescribe it.

AdriannaP · 01/11/2022 18:50

Tommys have a lot of advice on progesterone and how to get a GP to prescribe it. Definitely also explore if you have blood issues and need thinners like I did.

early scans have no medical benefits unless a suspected ectopic pregnancy. I got ones at 7 weeks/9/12/16/28/32 I think.

bunnykins123 · 01/11/2022 19:00

@Aismix I've had 4 losses - 1 mmc then successful birth of DD and now 3 early losses in the space of 6 months. I since have been unable to fall pregnant. I've had all the tests done and all is normal apart from high NK cells. This is basically when my immune system attacks the baby leading to miscarriage 😢 I'm on meds to suppress my immune system but no success yet (this is my 2nd month trying). I've had all the tests going so happy to answer questions if you have any!

Aismix · 01/11/2022 19:45

No medical benefits but have seen lots of research on the benefits of these early scans and testing for mindset, well being etc. Which helps the whole process ofc

@AdriannaP

My folate levels were on the border of being treatable and my GP told me they weren't concerned. Had been taking the vitabiotics pregnacare tablets so was concerned myself that they weren't higher!

Did you get the folate tablets over the counter or via GP?

I don’t know. It doesn’t prevent miscarriage so I didn’t feel it contributed to a more relaxed pregnancy. Pregnancy after losses is hard and nothing compared to one without previous losses.

Thanks for sharing.

bunnykins123 · 02/11/2022 16:41

@Aismix early scans won't change the outcome of a pregnancy if not viable, unfortunately. The benefit of early scans would be if your lining is thin, they can give you progesterone to support this but if it's a hormone / clotting / structural issue then the outcome will likely remain the same unless addressed before pregnancy. Early scans are good for peace of mind but if you've had reoccurring miscarriages, your best bet is to have a full reoccurring miscarriage blood panel and internal scan done to see if anything is amiss.

Aismix · 02/11/2022 19:09

@bunnykins123

I am well aware. This is not my first rodeo.

I was asked to share info on the benefits of regular check ins... Such as early scans.

Medoca · 02/11/2022 19:15

Ive been in the recurrent miscarriage clinic for years. They are very good at my local hospital. They scan from 6w, every 2w, until 12w. It doesn’t improve the outcome on a non-viable, but does give them more information (our hospital is a research hospital). I’ve had so many tests, including kareotype testing along with my husband. I’ve been very impressed with them.
