Hello all, I wonder if anyone can help...a friend of a friend is pg but has been advised that it is now no longer standard practice to offer amnios (or CVSs I guess) to older women (she is 40) if the results of the nuchal fold scan are OK. Has anyone else been told the same thing? Thanks...

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question. Is she having the blood test as well as nuchal scan? Does she want to have an amnio? If so can she ask to have it done anyway even though they say it's not standard practice, or are they saying they wont do it even if she requests?

Sorry no idea also but just thought I would bump the article up for you in case anyone else can answer.

I was pregnant when I was 42 and was told that I wasnt automatically entitled to an amnio but would have to discuss it with consultant. I'm in Edinburgh and we only get a scan between 11 -14 weeks and no nuchal fold scans or anomaly scans. I had to get anything else privately.

I think she will be able to ask for tests but it's just that previously, for women of her age, such tests were routinely offered. And of course, there are always private clinics if necessary. I was just curious as to whether this change is nationwide or not.
