Anyone have any experience with retained products?

Not sure if this is the right place to post so happy to be told otherwise!

Has anyone got any experience of retained products & can share their experience of how it worked out.

Had an MVA (surgical) just over 3 weeks ago. Bleeding didn't settle & still felt nauseous so went for a scan on weds - it showed retained products & initially told I needed a repeat procedure

In order to avoid travelling for the procedure (my local area only do the surgery every other week unless emergency) they agreed to give me misoprostol & rescan on surgery day meaning they can do surgery if scan shows no change.

Misoprostol hasn't done much, having some mild cramps on & off but no major bleeding at all & bleeding has now stopped. What are the chances it's sorted itself out with barely any bleeding? Scan was only 4 days ago & have got a few days to wait to find out & it's dragging!

If anyone can share their experience I'd be so grateful 😊

Hello,

firstly I’m so sorry to hear about your experience.

I have recently gone through a very similar situation with retained tissue.

I was given two options once it was confirmed that I had retained tissue. The first was Misoprostal, the second was surgery. Unfortunately there was a small risk that the tablets may not be effective as they referred to my tissue as ‘sticky’ - meaning there were blood vessels within the tissue. For this reason, I opted for the surgery to ensure the tissue was all removed with no further complications.

I hope that the tablets have worked for you in this instance, because there is sometimes nothing harder to go through then reliving the experience each time. Xx

Hi @Tashastar thanks so much for replying, sorry you had a similar experience.

The lady who scanned me said she thought surgery would be needed but they couldn't do it until later this week so just over a week from the scan. That's when I said I was happy to wait to have it done there (am familiar with the set up now & felt more comfortable there!) rather than travel to a different place. She asked a surgeon who said they were happy to wait if I was & to try misoprostol during that wait.

I know one way or another it will be sorted by the end of the week - either by scan confirming it's all gone or by repeating the surgery, it's just the waiting & not knowing which is a bit exhausting. Did a pregnancy test this morning - not sure why really as it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know! - and the test line was only a small bit lighter than the control line. Still having mild cramps, not requiring pain relief & just get the odd bit of blood when wiping, then disappears as if it was never there the next time I use the toilet 🤷‍♀️. The female body is both amazing yet mysterious all at the same time!

I hope you're recovering / have recovered well 😊
