Clearblue Ovulation Test / Early Positive Help

So I have been using the digital Clearblue ovulation tests to track my ovulation (the one with the blank circle, flashing smiley and solid smiley). I started testing quite soon after my last period ended as last month I seemed to have ovulated quite early. After a few days of flashing smiley, I got my solid smiley on 02/10. After being sick I took a One Step pregnancy test on Wednesday which showed a faint positive, I then took a First Response on Friday which also showed positive (picture attached).

My question is could my ovulation test results be wrong or is it possible to have a positive test result that early? I’ve no idea how far along I would be.

I’m believe implantation takes 6-12dpo, and then a few days after that for hcg to build up. When was your first day of your last period?

LStu · 09/10/2022 07:50

So I had a period 24/08, I tested before then as I was late but my results were definitely negative. I then had a lighter bleed 23/09 for a few days. We BD’d on 21st and 28th of September and then again on the 1st and 2nd of October. I’m totally thrown with the result as you can tell. It seems too faint for me to be 5/6 weeks but seems too early for it to show so soon after my period and before my next one, which wouldn’t be due until around 21st. Why is this part always so frustrating 😂 x

Hi @LStu - have you taken another test this morning? It's very rare to have a false positive with first response in my experience.

LStu · 09/10/2022 10:12

Hello @Geemmm , I’ve not taken another one this morning. I do have another one but I wasn’t sure when the best time to take it would be to compare how it’s developing (if at all)

@LStu I usually try to test every second day with FMU for progression - but to be honest I usually get a better result in the evenings. Could maybe try testing in the morning tomorrow to check for progression and go from there? If it's lighter or darker I'd maybe still get in contact with ur GP just to be safe.

LStu · 09/10/2022 10:37

Thanks @Geemmm . I have already phoned the GP and maternity services so they have booked me in for an appointment and first scan but they have used August as my last period date so have me at about 5 weeks so I feel like if that’s right my line should be darker. I know I’m overthinking and will just have to wait but I’ve had s few early losses so just feeling apprehensive about it all again.

@LStu can totally appreciate the over thinking feeling hun - when is your appointment and scan? Will testing again ease your brain or increase it so you think? Sorry I'm not really offering any wisdom here but if you need to chat then will be here to listen.

LStu · 09/10/2022 11:14

I feel like it would do both. I really want to test again but then I think I’ll obsess over the line progression, but if it’s still positive then that’s a good thing. Not until 22nd and 23rd of November so a while to wait. An ear is just as good as wisdom, was really just looking to see what people thought or if anyone had a similar experience x

I had exact the same issue in July ! I had a light period early in the month, then according to tests I ovulated on 13th but due to feeling pregnant I tested and got a positive on 15th. I have never worked out what happened but unfortunately my pregnancy ended up being chemical (please don't think this similar pattern has anything to do with mine being a chemical. That was just completely random and can happen with any pregnancy). I was reluctant to reply because I don't want to cause any concern to you but your situation is so similar to mine. I'm an older woman so I expect my risks of chemicals and losses are higher.

I didn't know if the light period was implantation or if the ovulation strips were out. I do only have short cycles at 23 days. I went for an early scan the week after I tested positive because I had assumed the bleed might have been implantation and that would have made me about five weeks but at the scan nothing was visible.

I was then referred to EPU because I'm high risk of ectopic and the midwife on EPU said that some women implant very early, like as early as three days and that some tests are very sensitive so it is possible to find out very early in some cases. So that's now what I think might have happened with me.

Whatever has happened with you I hope it all goes well. Just try and not over test and worry because it won't change anything but the less stress the better xxxx

@Saribon thank you for sharing your experience and I’m sorry you went through that. I have also had a chemical pregnancy and then a miscarriage before having my son, so that is also in the back of my mind. I had used the One Step strip initially and then First Response Early detection so it might just be that I’ve tested super early. I’m trying not to think about it too much and just hope that a bleed doesn’t come when I would be due my period. I’m not booked in until the 23rd November for a scan so will try not over think until then. Whatever is going to be will be, I’ll just have to wait and see if it’s going to be this time or not. xxx

@LStu will you update this thread when you know what's happening. I'm really intrigued because with my older daughter I didn't find out I was expecting until I was 12 weeks and that was because I had what I thought were periods. I know you can't have periods when pregnant but I have heard of other women having similar experiences. Do you have shorter cycles?

LStu · 12/10/2022 18:35

@Saribon yes of course I can. My cycles are usually 28 days and my period is pretty regular. Just seems like a strange situation. I don’t remember it being like that when I was pregnant with my son. I’ll let you know in November after my scan.
