Lupus antibodies and TTC?

Hi folks - this is a long one (sorry) - looking for anyone who has some experience or advice being in a similar situation, hopefully.

I have recently had an appointment at recurrent miscarriage clinic where I had bloods taken to be tested. I have spoken with the midwife who said my ‘well-being bloods’ were all within normal range. I already had this set of bloods taken at the beginning of the year by my GP surgery and it was the same outcome - so that’s good and consistent.

The next set of tests are for antibodies called lupus and antiphospholipid - both can apparently make miscarriage more prevalent due to the proteins in your blood increasing risk of blood clots.

I was told I have the lupus antibodies and this may be why my miscarriages are happening. She said you need two positive tests 12 weeks apart and so I’m booked back in for the second round of testing in December. She has asked that we do not get pregnant in this time and honestly the thought of not trying or tracking has made me feel really upset and anxious. But for the next two months we won’t be using opks or having sex to conceive. Gutting - but, it’s the best thing moving forward to find out what is actually going on.

The midwife said that the lupus antibodies are not due to anything I have done, nor is there anything I need to do in the meantime. However, if we get pregnant again I will be given injections and aspirin to take to help sustain the pregnancy.

I’m really just hoping someone can share their experiences and knowledge with me that have been in this situation. How hard was it trying to conceive with the antibodies? How was the pregnancy? Any sort of lifestyle changes? Etc. I have had a look online for some information but I have found it all quite contradictory and confusing. You can have the antibodies but not have lupus etc? Bit unsure.

I will be meeting with the doctor and midwife for an appointment at the clinic in two weeks and can ask for more clarification but my minds racing now.

Thanks!

Bumping this with a another little question...

Baby aspirin? Anyone used it with lupus antibodies or without? Did you buy it on your own or wait for pregnancy and prescription from doctor? What happened taking it? When did you start/stop?

Help!

I previously tested positive for lupus antibodies but do not have lupus so that is possible. I have a 3 year old conceived naturally and had no issues re. antibodies in pregnancy. Assume you’ve had your thyroid checked also?

I’m sorry for your losses, I’m sure they’ll get to the bottom of it. I know it’s hard to wait until December. I’ve been in a similar situation recently because I had to have my thyroid meds adjusted and was advised not to get pregnant for a few months as risk of miscarriage was high.

Hi @GabbyGal - that's great news, thank you for your reply.

Yes I've had my thyroid checked at beginning of the year and then a few weeks ago again - all good.

It's just difficult trying to put thing on pause when you have been trying consistently for so long - I know it's the sensible thing to do.

Do you mind if I ask a bit more about your antibody situation? Because you had the antibodies did they give you and medication throughout your pregnancy?

I got diagnosed with this same thing after recurrent miscarriages.
Getting pregnant again was no harder, and once I was pregnant, I had to inject blood thinners every day to reduce the chance of miscarriage. I have two children now. I also had to take low dose aspirin.

@katand2kits thanks - this has really helped to settle my over thinking brain!
