Conceiving a baby girl?

Babydust2222 · 29/09/2022 15:14

just wondering if anyones had any experience conceiving a girl, we have a gorgeous boy but wanting to try for a girl but happy with whatever gender as long as they’re healthy.

im currently at my ovulation peak today and I know there’s no scientific evidence, but they say not to conceive near ovulation if wanting a girl. Just wondered if anyone had any experience

. Same again a year later.

It all depends on the sperm that fertilises the egg. It’s a 5050 chance

Babydust2222 · 29/09/2022 15:18

I’m peak today on my testing, see attached. But I keep reading it you do it near ovulation favours a boy. So unsure whether to wait to try but don’t want to miss opportunity?

Anyone else feel like everyone around you is falling pregnant but you? 😢

I'm always, always so happy for people when they get their bfp ❤️ but I can't help but feel sad for my partner and I.

Nita19 · 29/09/2022 15:28

God I've just highjacked your post 😂

This was supposed to be a new post!! I'm sorry!!

Hoping you get your bfp 💫

We had sex 5 days before ovulation and got DD.

Sex on the day of ovulation and got DS!

What? That’s the only way to conceive. You’re only fertile for a few days each month around ovulation!

MissDollyMix · 29/09/2022 16:28

There’s loads of random stuff online. Eat lots of dairy and blueberries is one I remember. Probably something about timing of intercourse and position too. Warmer balls are more likely to equal a girl? Something like that. I can’t remember all of them because DD is 9 now and it was a long time ago! We tried most of the tips - more out of curiosity as we’d have been thrilled with either a girl or a boy. Worked for us but as others say, it’s (usually) a 50/50 punt so it might have done anyway!

So I understand that this is because sperm with an X chromosome (ie those that make baby girls) swim more slowly but live longer, so they can survive for a few days, while Y chromosome sperm (those that make boys) are fast but die quickly.
So, given that sperm can survive for a few days inside you, if you have sex a few days before ovulating you are more likely to have only X chromosome sperm left, hence raising the likelihood of having a boy; but if you have sex on the day of ovulation the Y chromosome sperm could get to the egg first.

Whether this is actually based in good science I really have no idea, but some people swear by it. I can't contribute any anecdotal evidence as I only have one child, a girl, and she was conceived on holiday when we pretty much shagged every day, so who knows.

oh my god, I made a very basic typo here! It should read:

if you have sex a few days before ovulating you are more likely to have only X chromosome sperm left, hence raising the likelihood of having a GIRL; but if you have sex on the day of ovulation the Y chromosome sperm could get to the egg first (and you'd have a boy).

Look at the forum genderdreaming.com
loads of tips there - after 2 DS we thought we’d try it for fun and it worked! Dtd only once a few days before ovulation and had been following some diet tips for a bit beforehand. 2 boys are amazing and they’re so close, but I absolutely adore having a girl too now to have both!

I read this somewhere too. However DS was born having DTD 5 days before O. I am sure that anecdotally it works for some people. I’m not convinced it’s true 5050 though… statistically if the father is one of only boys and his father was one of only boys you will have a boy. But I agree that you can’t control which sperm meets the egg.

LizaSimpson · 30/09/2022 09:50

I can't say for sure but apparently conceiving further away from ovulation can cause a girl as they are slower swimmers and it worked for us

First DS we weren't actually trying but had unprotected sex on the day of ovulation- and it was a boy.

2nd baby we were trying for so I was due to ovulate on the Thursday so we had sex the Thursday before, the Sunday and then Wednesday and Thursday for good measure haha and it's a little girl.

I don't think it's scientifically proven or anything but it worked for us I guess, probably a coincidence though.

SardineStitches · 30/09/2022 10:22

I used the method of best days to do it when wanting a girl. After 2 boys we had a girl and then for the 4th did the same and got another girl.. Most likely pure coincidence but I followed that and had girls.

xogossipgirlxo · 30/09/2022 10:35

It's been already proven that theory on sex on the day of ovulation to conceive son (and few days before to have a girl) isn't true. You always have 50% chances (or even more than 50% to have a boy as more boys are being born than girls). Otherwise all IVF babies would be boys as you basically put sperm straight into egg. Recent study showed that in fact, it's the egg that "chooses" the sperm it's going to let in. I'd take all these conception stories with pinch of salt.

emmaalouise90 · 31/10/2022 11:05

Ovulation really confuses me, so if ovulation dates are best time to get pregnant then why is it we can get a girl before ovulation?
Is this because it lives longer in you then reaches when you ovulate? X

YRGAM · 01/11/2022 13:37

The chance is almost exactly 50 50. There is nothing you can do to influence it.
