I conceived my son three years ago totally spontaneously by complete surprise (best surprise ever!). We decided to start trying for a second at the beginning of this year and I got pregnant straight away again. Unfortunately that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage.

I'm now on my fifth cycle trying again since the miscarriage and just got another BFN. I will be 40 in two months and I'm wondering whether I should seek fertility assistance even though it is still early days of TTC and I do know I can get pregnant.

I emailed the Dr who delivered DS who said it could take up to a year so I'm wondering if it's just a case of continuing as I am and trying to be patient?

I'm currently using the Clearblue monitor to get the timing right, preseed, pre-conception vitamins and I have a healthy diet and regular exercise.

I'm sorry you had a miscarriage
I think NHS advice is to get in touch straightaway when ttc over 40.
I think generally it just takes longer the older we get as we have a smaller proportion of good quality eggs, so it can take several months for a good one to be released.
However, if there is another issue and you end up needing fertility treatment, the younger you are, the greater the chance of success. Sadly success rates are fairly low and even a few months wait can make a difference in late 30s/early 40s
We started ttc in a very relaxed 'see what happens' kind of way when I was 35. I did end up being advised to try ivf at age 37 and really wished I had referred myself for investigations sooner, so I would advise to do it, even though there may be every chance you'll conceive and have a healthy pregnancy naturally

Thank you for your message @KatRee . Aunt Flo has just started so it's definitely a negative, I think it's time to see someone about it.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

NHS guidance is to see your GP after 12mths TTC age under 35, of after 6mths if over 35. I'd see them now- even if you say its been 6mths since your loss. Make it clear that its over 6mths though. I saw my GP 1 week earlier, was told to just relax and nothing was done!

Its worth checking whether any IVF assistance is available in your area. Vast majority wont if you already have a child, but worth checking anyways.

You might find a book called 'It starts with an egg' helpful. About reducing toxins and small, day to day changes which can help improve egg quality. Also get your partner checked.
