Think I have a BFP (photo attached) and I'm on levothyroxine - any thyroid issue mums out there?

Morning all,

A cautious bfp this morning at 7Dpo (I know I know) I have some FRER's arriving this afternoon.

The reason for testing early is that I've had two early losses and have since been put on levothyroxine for a TSH of 2.9.

Am I supposed to double my dose immediately and what do I need to be asking of the doctors if tomorrow shows a stronger line?

I'm thinking of asking to increase my dose, ask to be referred immediately to an endocrinologist, and to be under consultant care for my pregnancy to keep my thyroid under monitoring.

I've only just been diagnosed with this and it's all so new to me. I am showing antibodies that may mean I have the start of hashimotos, and my TSH is slightly elevated.

Im just so scared it all goes wrong again. Can anyone see the line?

Hey! I'm not sure about the pregnancy test but didn't want read and run in regards to the thyroid stuff as I've been through it during pregnancy. I was treated for a borderline underactive thyroid during pregnancy and had the anti-bodies. My TSH was at times over 4 (the definition of borderline underactive is I believe over 4.2-5) though whereas 2.9 is totally normal. I also have the anti-bodies and my endocrinologist said that between 10-15% of child bearing aged women have the anti-bodies so it doesn't automatically mean hashimotos. Don't touch your medication without speaking to your GP. The gold standard for pregnancy is aiming for a TSH below 2 but it's not an emergency situation or anything so don't worry. I believe around 40% of women have a TSH above 2.5 and they're perfectly fine during pregnancy. 2.9 is totally normal and I wonder if they're just 'clutching at straws' to explain to miscarriage(s). All the best OP-you'll be fine. If you weren't TTC they wouldn't even be treating you xx

@blueberry23 no probs. I was so stressed and anxious during my pregnancy when I was diagnosed that I had to share the months and months of research I did to reassure myself! 😂 x in the end my endocrinologist concluded that I most likely simply have a 'high normal' TSH and also happen to have the anti-bodies rather than actually having a thyroid problem xxx

Hi blueberry, tentative congratulations.
I'm on low dose levothyroxine for a TSH of 2.7, put on it by my IVF clinic as it is advised to be under 2.5 for optimal fertility they told me. I just told my midwife at my booking in appointment at 8 weeks, and was referred to an encrinologyst who just advised a repeat thyroid test in each trimester. I have not had to increase my dose at all and I'm now 33 weeks so you may not need to either.

All the best!

Thank you @Babyenroute !

Can I ask what doseage you are on? I'm on 25mcg.

Thank you @newtolineofduty

Unfortunately we have lots of thyroid issues in my family so it's unsurprising really!

Are you still on the meds now? X

@blueberry23 no about 85% of the time my TSH is below the cut off for borderline underactive thyroid so I was able to stop treatment as soon as I wasn't pregnant (they only treated me due to pregnancy). They just advised me to have my thyroid tested every year to monitor for any changes xxx

violetcuriosity · 10/09/2022 08:21

No idea about the medication but I can see the line too, good luck x

blueberry23 · 10/09/2022 08:26

Thanks @violetcuriosity - my husband can't but they don't have line eyes do they 🤣

25 mcg is a tiny dose. It almost certainly needs to be increased

Don't panic about doing it immediately but in the next few weeks, call your GP & they will most likely increase the dose.

You should have a review with an endocrinologist at some stage eg booking in appt / before 20 week scan

Just hopping on as I had my thyroid removed, and they currently have my TSH at 0.47! 😂 TTC no.1, so any advice for me would also be great! I try to research but it's all so confusing!
