Hey apologies if this is long. So I am currently on day 44 of what normally Is a 28 day cycle. Had mild- virtually nothing cramps for 2 weeks. No sign of period coming really. Had neg preg tests. Dr told me to retake in a week and then call back. I bought ovulation tests to try guage if I have ovulated late or if I am ovulating. Not even sure if they can tell me what stage of my cycle I am at. I tried to look online but really didn't make sense to me. I've attached the ovulation test which is def negative. Not quite sure why the control line wasn't strong either. Wondering if anyone can shed any light to ehat stage I am at or if anyone else has experienced something similar eith cycle ?

TIA!

Hi @LCScotmum you can't tell where you are in your cycle from one test until you happen to test when your LH surge is happening and then it will be positive. The usual advice is to start testing at day 8-10 in your cycle and test daily until the lines get darker, you may have to test twice a day to catch your peak. If you download an app like Premom you can take photos and it will automatically read your strip and tell you the ratio of control to test line so 1.0 and greater is considered positive and then you can expect to ovulate in 24-36 hours (so ovulation is usually the day after your 'peak' but can be longer if you go from the first positive test). If you're having an abnormally long cycle it might be that you didn't ovulate though. Hope that makes sense! I find the Premom app helpful- there's lots of info on there.

Thanks for that! I downloaded the app and it says low. I think I'll do them regularly until my cycle regulates again. I feel really heavy down there ( only way I can describe it ) hopefully AF makes an appearance or i see a change in the ovulation tests. I had no idea how it worked .

Sorry forgot to add on the second message. I must sound like an idiot teenager but I find such conflicting sfuff online!

So I can basically skip a period and not ovulate ? Would I bleed then or just wait for ovulation to occur and then period and hopefully normal cycle from there if I didn't get pregnant between that ?

@LCScotmum I think all those options are possible! Probably worth testing regularly just in case you do ovulate before next period but yes it's easier to start once you know when CD1 is for your next cycle. And don't worry at all about not knowing everything- there's so much conflicting advice out there, totally agree it's really tricky at first but you'll get the hang of it xx

Thanks I think I will. Feel really heavy feeling hoping it is nothing serious and is all hormonal imbalances . I downloaded that app so I hope it helps me see some sort of pattern.
