hi all,

i'm new here so would appreciate any help possible!

Back in March I had a miscarriage at 13+2, no cause found and the RCM at Guy's hospital said there were no abnormalities/issues/ infections or causes for concern found in me.

Following that, I have since had 3 consecutive CP's all ending before the 5 week mark. I have been referred to Queen Charlotte's RMC again and i have a zoom appt next month but have also booked myself too see Dr Shahata a few days before by RMC appt.

Was just wondering if anyone could offer any guidance or advice on whether you think Dr S would be able to help me as i know people have mentioned that Dr S says its harder to treat someone with recurring CP's. Also, could anyone advise on the process at his clinic pls.

Will bloods be taken at my initial appt and will i be prescribed something (if needed) on the same day/few days later or will i need to wait for my follow up appt which is a month later?

Thanks in advance!

Any help is much appreciated :)

Hi @comingsoon786110

Sorry you find yourself in this situation. I am currently seeing Dr Shetaha. At the first appointment he will go through your history and explain the process. If you are happy to proceed they will do blood tests at that appointment. You get the results at the follow up appointment and he will recommend a treatment plan at that point. Good luck

Hi @Tango40 thanks for your response!

I've seen some posts on here that say they take away medication on the day if its needed? Essentially i wont start my possible treatment until my follow up in November then?

Thanks for your help

No problem @comingsoon786110 it's difficult to navigate it all isn't it. That wasn't my experience but others may have had treatment recommended straight away. He did say what supplements to start taking at the first appointment. There is a thread on here called immune/NK cells and a lot of women on that thread are under DR S and have a lot of knowledge so might be worth asking that. I know how frustrating it is having to wait to move forward!

@Tango40 thank you for your help! Guess i will have to wait and see what he comes back with. If you dont mind me asking, how much have you paid for the treatment so far? It's okay if you dont feel comfortable answering!

I am not sure how much I have spent in total, I should keep a note really. I had my first appointments in March and the cost of the initial tests was £2500. I was put on the complex plan which includes having ovulation intripalids every month which costs £380 each time. The medication costs about £300 for 3 months worth. They also get you to repeat bloods tests after 3 months of you being on the medication which I had to do last month and that was about £300. Also if you have 3 unsuccessful months you need to pay to have another consultation with the doctor which I need to do this month that is around £200. The other costs are for scans if you get a positive test starting at 6 weeks.

@Tango40 oh gosh that is soo much more than anticipated!! Thanks so much for responding, you really helped! Xx take care and all the best for your journey Biscuit

Did I read it right that you've got an NHS appointment as well?

Tbh if that's the case I'd cancel the private appointment at this stage.

The appointments will be the same in that they will take history and order a ton of tests on both of you.

When you have a diagnosis you can decide if you want to go private for treatment. That will depend on what the NHS will offer.

We would have been able to get 1 fresh and 2 frozen IVF rounds on the NHS.

Save yourself the money.

comingsoon786110 · 06/09/2022 17:17

@Tango40 oh really? do you think its worth me waiting for my NHS appt and seeing what they say and then going private if they cannot do anything for me?

The only reason i booked to see Dr S is because after my first miscarriage i was referred to RMC and they did ran tests on me and said everything came back fine but that was before all of these chemical pregnancies.

I was also thinking the same as you and was wanting to wait and see what the NHS consultant says before i went to see a specialist.

Thanks for your help!

Def wait for the NHS appointment. We were under the assisted conception uni at Kings and they were amazing. We'd done a lot of the blood tests before but they went through everything again with us.

Ultimately we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility (personally I think the worst diagnosis) and moved straight to IVF. We asked about other treatments but they were very honest about limited success rates for us with other less invasive treatments.

comingsoon786110 · 06/09/2022 18:52

@Twizbe amazing, sounds good! I will cancel the Dr S appt tomorrow or just move it to a later date just in case i do end up needing to see him.

Im so sorry about your result but hopefully all goes well with the IVF! At what point do the NHS offer IVF? Seeing as though my most recent pregnancy was just last month do i have to wait until next August for it to be offered to me?

This was back in 2016. We'd been trying for 2 and a half years by the time we got to IVF. There was no waiting list at that point and we tried for a few more months taking proxeed and we're booked in for my end of May cycle.

I actually got pregnant naturally during that May cycle.

@Twizbe amazing, thanks for your help and wishing you all the best! Xx
