Fertility Tests confusion and next steps recommended

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with lean PCOS since I was a teenager. I am thin but have cysts on both ovaries, enlarged ovaries and high LH blood test. My periods are regular +- 5 days.

My recent blood tests confirmed that everything has stayed the same: doesn't support ovulation taking place. I do have positive ovulation tests at home and BBT has a dip around Day 14. My Day 21 blood test was 31. It was my Day 2 on my period fertility tests that were all abnormal, along with ultrasound.

I have been referred to clinic. What is best course of action now?

-Should I take my inositol or any other vitamins?
-Should I ask for any other types of blood tests?

Is Metformin / Clomid the next stage? or is it straight to IVF? Not sure what to expect. DH tests are all normal.

Thanks,

Carly

Hi,

I have a similar background. I found It Starts with an egg by Rebecca Fett helpful supplement wise. I didn't take everything she recommended, but the book was interesting. Don't let it stress you out lifestyle wise though.

Initially I went onto Clomid before moving onto IVF due to complications. If you do take clomid, take it just before you go to bed so you sleep through the side effects!

Good luck.

Thank you for your quick reply and recommendations. I'll order this book right now.

Is it possible to go straight to IVF?

It feels surreal that I am starting this process but I've been off bc 4 years and nothing happened. Finally plucked courage to go to GP at the beginning of the year and after the blood tests and ultrasounds have been done, today GP referred me to fertility clinic.

Albeit being thin (actually trying to put on weight!) I believe I do have some insulin resistance going on. My hair is thinner but I have random black hairs on my neck. I also get acne around my jawline.

Hey,

No problem. If you're NHS funded they may want you to do clomid first unless there is a good reason because it is cheaper than IVF. If you're self funding, then id discuss with your consultant. Depending on your age you may need to push for IVF to avoid losing out on funding because each area has their own cut off age. Not sure how upto date this schedule from Fertility Fairness website is, but it will give you an idea of what the position was when they last prepared the schedule fertilitynetworkuk.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/CCG-Fertility-Entitlement-Updated-21.07.2022.xlsx

I would say that clomid was infinitely easier than IVF. This book is a basic but helpful insight from male and female views of the ivf process www.amazon.co.uk/Get-Life-Hers-Survival-Guide/dp/1409155013.

It's good you've gone to your GP and have been referred.

Hi @Carly2014 I know you posted quite a while ago, but I also have lean PCOS which makes managing the PCOS symptoms very tricky! I just wondered how your fertility journey was progressing since your original post? Thanks!
