Hey ladies - my hubs and i have tried for over a year. Just had our 15th unsuccessful cycle and I broke down. When is it finally going to happen? My cycles are perfect, we’re both healthy and young (29&27)

Did it take anyone over a year to conceive? Please give me some hope

Hey @winterspinach please don't give up hope 😊 I know how frustrating, sad and lonely it can be. Is there anyone you can talk to about it? We've been TTC for 21 months now although I'm a little older at 36.

Are you doing OPKs to see if you're DTD around the right sort of time each month? As it's been over 12 months you can go to your GP and they should be able to run some bloods for you and start the ball rolling to see if there is something simple they can do to help.

thank you so much for the encouraging words @RugbyGirl1
Ive been using OPKs and usually dtd on the correct days but we’re gonna try being more on point with this. I take seven seas prenatals, tried everything from using cough medicine to loosen CM, pineapple core after ovulation, putting up my legs after dtd and trying different vitamins. I’m going to book a blood test and a smear test soon so hopefully I can find out what the issue might be.

I’ll try keeping positive, my best friend is also ttc as well and my husband is so supportive but it can still feel like a lonely journey.
Hope you have some good news soon! 💖

Sounds like you're doing all the right things @winterspinach! Apparently it's better to hit the days before ovulation than after so getting the timing right is key. Definitely get bloods booked with your GP, they should run day 3 and day 21 tests as a minimum, although ask for others whilst they're at it, including testosterone, prolactin and thyroid. Day 21 tests may not be on day 21, depends on your cycle lengths etc. Sorry if you know all this! Do you temp?

Mumsnet chat is pretty good for support too, especially with all my random questions 😂

I actually got a BFP today but I'm still a bit tentative.... I got one almost a year ago to the day but sadly it ended in an early miscarriage so I'm not celebrating just yet!

It took us over a year to conceive DD1, conception for subsequent pregancies was much quicker. Its like rolling a dice, you can get a 6 first throw or it can take ages.
However I would recommend you both go to your GP to get checked out, if you haven't already.
For my first baby I get get a bit obsessed, all I could see were prams and babies everywhere !
Like you i also tracked temperature/ ovulation and took cough medicine!
The thing that worked for me was observing vaginal mucus , if it is clear and stretchy like egg white , don't delay seize the moment !! Timing is crucial and it maybe that your fertile phase is a bit shorter.
I think stress can play a part too, particularly on sperm count but of course very hard to feel less stressed on demand!
Good luck

that is so wonderful!!!! congrats and hope you have a healthy and happy pregnancy :)

weve always managed to dtd on the days before but sometimes miss the day of and day after which i feel might be hindering us. also going to cut down on sugar as i have too much of it and apparently it’s quite inflammatory

5 years, and by that point we'd stopped doing anything special. Sometimes it just takes time!

RugbyGirl1 · 29/08/2022 21:43

Thanks @winterspinach it's still very early days so being cautiously optimistic! Think I'll book in for an early scan or two for some reassurance.

Definitely add in an extra day or two DTD over ovulation itself and the day after if you can manage it (it can be a lot of work 😂). Hope your GP is good - if you have ones at your practice that specialise in fertility definitely try and get an appointment with them, you have half a chance they know what they're talking about then!

Just, don't give up hope, these things can take time but it'll be worth it in the end 😊

It took us 2.5 years to get pregnant.

No issues and we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility.

Eventually we I got pregnant the cycle before starting IVF.
