Positive Early Test Concerns

Hi all, unfortunately we decided to early test at 22days post LMP. To add more info to this my partner's last 2 periods were late due to unrelated stress, but previously were relatively normal (28day, 27day, 37day, 37day).

Our worry now is at 26/27 days past LMP when can we be outside the chemical pregnancy worry time? No negative symptoms as of yet and body still seems to be prepping itself for what's to come but obviously concerned as this was our first time.

Also, lack of understanding on my part, does early positive result indicate next period is due within 6 days or do early tests give positive results earlier in some cases?
Thanks

Do you know when she ovulated?

A chemical pregnancy is one which is lost before 6 weeks. If you are testing every other day the line should get darker as HCG increases, if it gets lighter, or doesn't get darker, then usually that's an indication of a chemical but not always. Is there a reason you are worried about a chemical?

A early positive result doesn't tell you when the next period would be (if it's positive then its more likely there won't be another period for 9+ months!). It just shows there is HCG present at the time of taking the test. HCG is present when there is a pregnancy.

Early tests are more sensitive than others, so it shows a line when there is less HCG present. As HCG doubles every 48 hours (roughly) it means you can test sooner compared to a test which isn't as sensitive. If you are worried about a chemical you could test every other day for reassurance and the line should get darker.

@KatySp We used a clear blue early with weeks indicator unfortunately so can't compare lines. But that returned a 1-2 week result. We know rough ovulation window which was between 15&10 days ago and we're confident we know the conception date within 24-48 hours. But we're currently at roughly 14DPO and 27LMP.

Many years ago we also had an eptopic which is why I worry more.

I guess if it's upto 6 weeks we have 2 more weeks for potential Chemical, but it's mainly just over worrying. All symptoms still point towards normal pregnancy symptoms. In the absence of an original line test would you just say start doing them every other day using line ones?

So 1-2 weeks is good for 14DPO. It goes by how many weeks since conception so that's about right.

Completely up to you how you do it going forwards.

Personally I'm a serial tester due to previous losses and 3 chemicals. I also have to adjust my meds if I'm pregnant so I want to know ASAP if it's a chemical so I can adjust them back. It can cause a lot of anxiety though so you can either do the line tests or do a clear blue weeks every week - what ever will keep you calm until a scan. Could you get one at 6 weeks? That being said those clear blue tests aren't scientific and there's loads of stories where the weeks didn't change and it was a loss and loads where they didn't change and it was all ok.

Without putting a dampener on things, even if it's not a chemical it doesn't mean everything will be ok. A chemical is just what they say when you are pregnant but too early to see anything on a scan.

I'm sorry to hear about the ectopic, that must have been so tough.

If you can just try to chill out then try to do that. Testing isn't going to change the outcome (this is what I tell myself but I still test too much). You have a positive test so that's good for now, perhaps if you can get an early scan at 6 weeks and then take things from there. Pregnancy tests will only tell you there is HCG, it doesn't tell you everything will be ok.

I have all my fingers crossed you will be bringing home a lovely healthy baby in about 8 months Flowers

@KatySp thanks that's a really kind message, we have got a 6 week scan due to the eptopic previously. Fingers crossed, some mild cramping these past 4/5 days but super mild and quick so no negative symptoms yet (touch wood).

My early pregnancy symptoms are always mild cramping. With my first pregnancy it was the only reason I took a test. I had cramps for a week and no period and I saw something about implantation cramps.

Please do keep us updated if you want to.

Thanks that's nice to know it's positive sign. Everything else is going well sign wise. We have constant toilet trips, mega bloating, insane tiredness, sore breasts, constipation / gasses, self confessed mood swings and occasional sick feelings. I should really feel more positive given so many good signs.

I guess the worries are compounded by my sister having a chemical pregnancy 6 weeks back.

Appreciate the support and help @KatySp

They are good signs, I usually have nothing until about 6 weeks. Fingers crossed for you both.

Sorry to hear about your sister, when you have experienced loss directly or by those around you, you know what to worry about.
